I finally watched Wicked: For Good this weekend, and wow, what an experience! If you loved the first part, this one takes everything up several notches and delivers an ending that’ll stay with you long after you leave the theater.
The Story Continues Beautifully
Picking up right where the first film left off, this second part dives deeper into the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda. We see how their bond is tested, how their choices shape their destinies, and how the world of Oz changes them both. Without spoiling anything, the journey gets darker and more emotional than you might expect.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Shine Even Brighter
Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba continues to be absolutely phenomenal. Her portrayal of the Wicked Witch goes beyond just the green skin and the flying – she brings so much depth and pain to the character. You understand why she makes the choices she does, even when those choices are difficult.
Ariana Grande’s Glinda evolves beautifully in this second part. She’s not just the bubbly, popular girl anymore. You see her struggle with tough decisions, and Ariana handles these complex moments with real grace. The chemistry between these two leads is electric, and their scenes together are the heart of the film.
Jonathan Bailey returns as Fiyero, and he gets much more to do this time around. His character’s journey is compelling, and Bailey brings charm and emotion to every scene. The supporting cast, including Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum, continue to add richness to the world of Oz.

A Visual and Musical Masterpiece
The production design is even more spectacular than the first film. The sets are grand, the costumes are stunning, and every frame looks like a painting. Director Jon M. Chu really outdid himself with the visual storytelling.
The musical numbers are incredible. The songs hit harder emotionally in this second part, and the performances gave me goosebumps multiple times. The way they’ve staged these numbers – combining practical effects with visual effects – creates moments of pure movie magic.
Why You Should Watch It
This isn’t just a good sequel – it’s a complete and satisfying conclusion to the story. Everything that was set up in the first film pays off here. The themes about friendship, power, and doing what’s right even when it’s hard feel especially relevant.
I took my sister who hadn’t seen the first film, and while she enjoyed it, I’d definitely recommend watching Part One first. This is really one long story split into two films, and you’ll appreciate the emotional journey much more if you see both in order.
Final Thoughts
Wicked: For Good is everything a sequel should be. It’s bigger, more emotional, and brings the story home in a way that feels earned. Cynthia and Ariana deliver career-defining performances, and the whole production is top-notch.
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
If you enjoyed the first Wicked film, don’t miss this one. It’s a beautiful, emotional, and thoroughly entertaining conclusion to a story about friendship, choices, and what it really means to be good or wicked.
