Viduthalai Movie Review

Viduthalai: Part 1 is a cinematic version of the short story Thunaivan, which is based on the real-life 1992 Vachathi case*, a harrowing instance of state-sponsored violence in a tribal-dominated district of Tamil Nadu. The plot is a fictitious depiction of real-life police crimes, for which victims only received justice in 2011. In some ways, the film is an homage to the impoverished and helpless.

The fact that Vetrimaaran’s name is frequently associated with his five national awards is borne out by his extensive filmography. The filmography of the director also demonstrates that Vetrimaaran is the only filmmaker who can handle a sensitive subject like Viduthalai: Part 1’s. Vetrimaaran’s direction is completely top notch in this dramatic Tamil crime thriller and has set the perfect stage for Viduthalai Part 2.

Vetrimaaran films ordinarily have music by GV Prakash and seldom has he worked with another music writer, not to mention a music veteran. The new Vetrimaaran-Ilaiyaraaja combination certainly stands out.

Soori is among those actors who have been typecast as comedians in the film industry but in Viduthalai: Part 1 he has shown his range of acting. The brilliance of Soori shines brightly in this bleak film that will shake you up. Vijay Sethupathi is as fantastic as ever. He just knows how to ace any role with his effortless charm. The rest of the cast has also done a fine job and in particular Bhavani Sre is also excellent.

In conclusion, Viduthalai is a must watch movie for people who love striking dramas that relate with real life.
