Suriya makes a strong return to theatres with Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Pooja Hegde in the lead role. The film follows the story of a former gangster trying to live a peaceful life after marriage, only to be pulled back by his dark past. After the disappointing performance of Kanguva, fans have high hopes for Retro.
Reportedly, the makers have secured an OTT deal with Netflix. The film is expected to stream on the platform by June or July 2025, following the typical 45-60 day theatrical window.

The film also stars Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, and has a cameo by Shriya Saran. Director Subbaraj clarified that the script was originally written with Rajinikanth in mind—not Thalapathy Vijay, as rumoured. After narrating it to Suriya, the story was reshaped into a love-action drama.
Suriya was last seen in Kanguva, which failed to impress at the box office despite a big cast including Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and others.
