Make Me has a premise that is immediately intriguing. Reacher arrives in a small, remote town in the Midwest called Mother’s Rest — and the name alone is enough to make him curious. He gets strange, unwelcoming treatment from the locals. Something feels wrong. He decides to find out what it is.
What he uncovers is described as a dark, macabre conspiracy unlike anything he has faced in previous adventures. Without going into spoilers, Make Me involves some genuinely disturbing subject matter that has the potential to be the show’s darkest season yet.
What Makes Season 5 Different From All Previous Seasons
This is the most interesting part of the Season 5 announcement for long-time fans of the show.
Every season of Reacher that has aired so far has followed the same basic emotional formula — Reacher gets personally involved because someone he cares about has been hurt or killed. The setting is also a departure. Previous seasons have used a sweltering Georgia town, New York City and Atlantic City, coastal Maine, and Philadelphia. A remote Midwestern town called Mother’s Rest is visually and atmospherically entirely different from any of those — which is exactly the kind of change the show needs to keep feeling fresh rather than formulaic.

As of now, only Alan Ritchson is confirmed to return as Jack Reacher for Season 5.
The supporting cast has not been announced, which is consistent with how the show operates — each season introduces a largely new ensemble of characters, with the only consistent elements being Reacher himself and occasional appearances from Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten.
Whether Neagley appears in Season 5 is not yet confirmed, though given that her spinoff series Neagley is launching on September 16 — the same day as the Season 4 finale — her presence in the broader Reacher universe is clearly being expanded rather than reduced.
