Left-handed Individuals are at a Higher Risk of Depression! Learn Why

There are many people who are accustomed to working with their left hand. But did you know that left-handed individuals are at a higher risk of anxiety and depression? According to psychologists, people who use their left hand may face certain health-related problems compared to right-handed individuals. There is also a slight difference in the mental and physical structure of left-handed people.

Why are left-handed individuals at risk of mental health problems?

Differences in brain function and structure may cause left-handed people to experience anxiety or other mental health issues differently. Although not all facts about this are fully understood, it has been observed that left-handed individuals are at a higher risk of conditions like depression and anxiety. This can be due to genetic, social, or environmental factors. Sometimes, genetic reasons cause these issues to be passed from parents to children, and hormonal imbalances during pregnancy can also contribute. The habit of being left-handed may also develop during childhood.

Left-handed people may face various challenges, such as societal and familial pressure to use their right hand, as most everyday tools and devices are designed for right-handed individuals. This can lead to mental stress, social isolation, and a lack of confidence. However, it is important to note that the abilities and talents of left-handed individuals are no different from those of right-handed people. Therefore, they should be provided with equal opportunities and support.

Several mental health problems have been found to be more common in left-handed people, including mood swings, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, and post-traumatic stress disorder, compared to right-handed individuals. Left-handed people also tend to experience anxiety more often. Experts believe that several factors, including genetic issues, brain connectivity, and environmental influences, are responsible for this.
