On 4th April 2022, Jio Institute announced that they’ve appointed Dr Guruswami Ravichandran as their new Provost.
Dr Ravichandran is a professor at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). And he will be commencing Jio’s office from 1st July 2022.
About Dr Guruswami Ravichandran
Dr Ravichandran, a proffer at Caltech holds a PhD in Engineering and MS in Engineering. He has received both these degrees from Brown University, USA.
Additionally, Dr Ravichandran also holds a BE Hons degree in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Trichy. He is also a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, foreign Member Academia Europaea, and many more.
Apart from this, he was also part of the Otis Booth Leadership Chair of the Engineering division. He was there from 2015 to 2021. He also served as the Director of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT) from 2009 to 2015.
Dr Ravichandran has received many awards throughout his career. These awards include the Warner T. Koiter Medal, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and William M. Murray Lecture Award.
Additionally, he has also received Society for Experimental Mechanics, Chevalier de l’ordre des Palmes Academiques, Republic of France, among many other awards and recognition for his contribution to research and teaching.
Jio Appoints Dr Ravichandran As Their Provost
On 4th April 2022, Jio released an announcement that stated Dr Ravichandran has been appointed as their new Provost. And the company feels that his joining will help the company to further strengthen its academic leadership.
Mrs Nita Ambani, the Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation said “It gives me pleasure to welcome Dr Ravichandran into the Jio Institute and Reliance family.” She also said that the company will definitely benefit from Dr Ravichandran’s vast experience.
Furthermore, Dr Guruswami Ravichandran can surely add to the advancement of India and the world. “With faculty drawn from top-notch institutions across the world, Jio Institute is envisioned to be global while retaining its Indian essence”, she added.

Jio Institute also added that the admissions for their Post-graduate certificate programmes have started. Moreover, these degrees are in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Digital Media and Marketing Communications.
Furthermore, Jio Institute is offering interested candidates scholarships to the students if they fit the scholarship criteria.
