The issuing authority for Aadhaar, UIDAI, has made several rule changes related to Aadhaar enrolment and Aadhaar updates. These changes may affect users who are planning to get a new Aadhaar card or update an existing one. The new rules have been notified under the Third Amendment Regulations, 2025.
Under the revised rules, the list of documents that can be used as proof of identity, address, relationship, or date of birth has been updated. UIDAI has implemented these changes for all age groups, including children, young adults, and senior citizens. If you are planning to apply for or update your Aadhaar card, you should be aware of these documents.
Documents Required for Name Change
UIDAI has approved several identity documents for name correction. A passport is considered the most reliable document because it includes your photo, name, date of birth, and address. Other acceptable documents include:
- PAN card
- Voter ID (EPIC)
- Driving licence
- Government-issued ID cards
- Marriage certificate
Documents Required for Address Update
UIDAI now accepts a wide range of documents as valid address proof. These include:
- Passport
- Updated bank passbook or bank statement
- Utility bills (electricity, water, gas) issued within the last three months
- Rent agreement for tenants
- House/property tax receipt
- ID cards
- Ration card
Documents for Date of Birth Update
To update your date of birth, several documents are accepted, such as:
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Class 10th or 12th marksheet
- Physical PAN card (Note: e-PAN is not considered valid)
What Has Changed Now?
According to the new rules, a single document that contains your photo, name, and address will now be sufficient for Aadhaar updates. Earlier, separate documents were required for each type of update. But now, a single document can be used for:
- Name change
- Address change
- Date of birth update
- Adding or updating relationship information
