How to Keep Your Whatsapp Secure and Private

    By Flickonclick StaffFebruary 26, 2020
    Facebook Twitter WhatsApp Email

Recently, Facebook-owned Whatsapp crossed 2 Billion users mark worldwide as  almost 25% of the world’s total population is using it. The company’s profit and grasp over the messaging market are solely due to its easy-to-use interface, a lot of features for individual and group users, and no advertisements in their app.

    Is your whatsapp secured?

In May 2019, Facebook shared their views on cybersecurity and cybercrimes in its F8 summit. They stated, “Strong encryption acts like an unbreakable digital lock that keeps the information you send over WhatsApp secure and private, helping protect you from hackers and criminals. Messages are only kept on your phone, and no one in between can read your messages or listen to your calls, not even us. Your private conversations stay between you.”

Since then, Whatsapp has been keeping up with many important features and updates. All of them aim at making people’s experience more user-friendly and secure.

Despite all backdoors rumors about the app, Facebook has to regulate heavy security measures and has done a good job till now. New updates are being added from time to time and the day to day users must know about these features. So here we have Top Security Features of Whatsapp in 2020 listed down for you, check them out.

There’s more to Whatsapp than just end to end encryption. Here’s how whatsapp users can keep their accounts secure and private

    Two-Step Verification

In Facebook, Gmail, or any other important accounts, you must have enabled two-step verification security measures. Two-step verification requires the dialing in of an OTP  whenever users login to their account.

Whatsapp does provide this additional layer of security too. Users can enable this feature by going to Settings > Account > two-step verification.

When you tick on the feature, a six-digit PIN is to be entered for the reset and verification process. This method is useful to prevent any leak of important information from your phone.

    Group Users

Sometimes being added in a group, without your approval, can be a little pecky. It becomes annoying with all the unwanted notifications, tagging on top of advertisement and other lecherous messages from god know who.

Whatsapp’s new update ensures that these unwanted messengers couldn’t get to you. The app now allows users to block others to add you to their groups.

To enable it, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups. Select one of three available options: “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “My Contacts Except”.

    Securing Your Profile

Whatsapp has always stressed over securing users’ privacy and data. They regularly update new features to safeguard user’s personal space.

You can make adjustments to your profile settings. Let the information be available to those who you want to. For profile photo, about section and status, choose between “Everyone”, “Your contacts”, or “Nobody” accordingly. Also, You can turn off the last seen and Read Recipient feature if you want.

    Touch ID and Face ID

Whatsapp was working on this new feature for a long time. Since it was introduced in the smartphone, Touch ID and Face ID have been two of the most important elements in security.

You can now protect your Whatsapp account with Touch ID and Face ID on your android and iOs Device respectively.  This feature has removed any situation of installing third-party apps to secure it with pattern locks/hand gestures or any secondary lock.

Always update your Whatsapp for the latest bug removals, fixing loopholes and to have all the latest features in your app. That way, you can get all the latest security updates from WhatsApp and do not have to worry about, most of the threats.
