    Green tea is one of the oldest known herbal teas that has been consumed for ages. Currently, this antioxidant-rich tea is consumed by everyone who is concerned about their health. There has been a real hype about the benefits of the tea and due to the easy availability in the market, everyone is attracted to it.





    It even results in the overconsumption of the product that may lead to serious health issues. Following are a few of the side-effects of green tea:

    Overconsumption leads to serious health threats.

    Studies have revealed that overconsumption of Green Tea can cause liver issues. Even when you consume Green Tea with prescription medications, it diminishes their effectiveness.

    Caffeine in green tea interferes with certain medications. It even has a tendency to react with certain herbs that can damage your overall health. If taken in a moderate amount, the above-mentioned issues are not of any concern. 

    Tannins increase the level of acid in the stomach.

    Tannins, one of the ingredients present in Green Tea increases acid in the stomach that may result in various gastrointestinal problems like constipation or stomach ache. So, drinking less than 2-3 cups of green tea a day is good for health.

    Green Tea During Pregnancy May Cause Birth Defects.

    Overconsumption of green tea leads to hypertension that may have a serious health impact on the mother and the newborn. According to certain studies, caffeine and tannins in green tea can reduce the levels of folic acid.




    This acid is essential to prevent miscarriages and birth defects. Overconsumption during pregnancy even increases the risk of preterm birth.

    Caffeine Toxicity Causes Headache, Dizziness, And Vomiting.

    Caffeine toxicity is caused by overconsumption of green tea and it may lead to headaches, nausea, vomiting, chills, palpitations, and flushing. It also causes blood pressure to drop below the normal level. However, even if consumed in a limited quantity, it is harmful to the people who are sensitive to caffeine.

    Green Tea’s Caffeine May Cause Bone Weakness.

    Studies show that excessive intake of green tea may prevent calcium absorption. Excessive green tea intake reduces bone accumulation rate, increases fracture risk, and reduces bone mineral density. Bone loss in the elderly is another risk it holds. 

    Prevent Blood Clotting.

    Studies have found that caffeine in green tea stops the action of Warfarin. It’s a drug that is meant to treat blood clots and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

    Infertility In Men.

    Excessive intake of green tea may damage the male reproductive system, leading to infertility. It damages the sperm DNA which can be an alarming cause for anyone who is looking forward to starting out a family or have plans for the same.

    Too Much Of Green Tea May Cause Heartburn.

    A person who suffers from gastroesophageal diseases is prone to heartburn. Gastroesophageal diseases are known as acidity and are caused due to smoking, obesity, bad food habits, and excessive green tea consumption.




    Excessive consumption of green tea along with an inactive routine might cause the risk of this disease. Also, theophylline, a component of green tea might cause acid reflux.
