Netflix's Blockbuster Review: Should Have Called It Lacklustre

Netflix’s Blockbuster Review: A hit-and-miss sitcom that suffers from lazy writing and pale performances from the main cast. Netflix has again failed to hit the mark when it comes to producing sitcoms.

Netflix’s Blockbuster Story: Timmy, the manager of the last Blockbuster Video Store in America, tries to rally his employers to stay relevant in an era that seems to gravitate towards otherworldly things. The show tries to put a hilarious spin on this whole situation.

    Netflix’s Blockbuster Review

Netflix’s Blockbuster, released on 3rd November 2022, is the latest attempt by the digital streaming service to produce sitcoms. However, it is yet another failed attempt as the sitcom fails to leave an impact and seems lacklustre instead of being a ‘Blockbuster.’

The ordinary story premise fails to produce moments which can be remembered. However, the biggest failure of the show lies in its inability to make a character so much likeable that people start to demand more of the show.

The sitcoms that have done well in the past were known for their characters, not their premise. Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother is a classic example of how a character can completely change the level of fun involved in a sitcom. Timmy Randall comes out as a placid character in a comedy that should have demanded much more from him.

Mellisa Fumero too has suffered due to lazy writing. She is likeable but not memorable. It could have been a good show, but for some reason, it seems that the creators were too busy to get it done. Netflix has been brilliant when it comes to producing hard-hitting dramas, documentaries and teen comedies, but it still needs to work on its sitcom theory.
