Graveyard Season 3 Review: A Darker and More Personal Crime Mystery

    Graveyard Season 3 Review: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Graveyard Season 3 is a dark and gripping crime drama that becomes more personal while continuing to explore serious issues affecting women. Birce Akalay remains the biggest strength of the series, although the slow pace and long episodes may test some viewers’ patience.

    Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
    Language: Turkish
    Genre: Crime, Mystery, Drama
Runtime: Around 45–60 minutes per episode
    Director: Ömer Baykul, Abdullah Oğuz
Cast: Birce Akalay, Olgun Toker, Şehsuvar Aktaş, Hakan Meriçliler, Sezgin Uzunbekiroğlu, Cem Sürgit

Netflix’s Graveyard returns with its third season, bringing Chief Inspector Önem Özülkü back for another set of difficult investigations. The Turkish crime drama once again mixes mystery with serious social issues, creating a story that is about more than simply finding criminals.

Season 3 has eight episodes, and each one deals with disturbing crimes while slowly building a larger mystery. This time, however, the story feels much closer to Önem herself, giving the season a more emotional side.

The biggest change in Season 3 is how closely the main mystery becomes connected to Önem. Strange boxes begin appearing at the homes of women around the town, creating questions that become increasingly difficult to answer.

As Önem and her team investigate, she finds herself closer to the centre of the mystery than expected. This gives the investigation a stronger sense of urgency because the case is no longer just another file on her desk.

The personal angle also allows the show to explore Önem’s emotional struggles. She is still a determined investigator, but viewers also get to see her vulnerabilities and the pressure that comes with her work.

Birce Akalay continues to be the heart of Graveyard. Her performance as Önem is powerful without making the character feel unrealistically perfect.

Önem does not solve every case easily. She makes mistakes, faces difficult situations and sometimes has to deal with emotions that cannot simply be pushed aside. That makes her feel more human.

Akalay is especially effective during quieter scenes. Even when Önem is not saying much, her expressions communicate the weight of what she has seen and experienced.

Her chemistry with Serdar also remains one of the enjoyable parts of the season. Their partnership gives the investigations a good balance and makes the team dynamic feel natural.

Like the earlier seasons, Season 3 does not use crime only as entertainment. The cases are connected to wider problems in society, particularly issues involving women.

The series looks at violence against women and the attitudes and systems that allow such problems to continue. This gives the investigations more meaning because the victims are not treated simply as names in a police case.

The show takes its time to examine what happens around the crimes and how they affect people. As a result, the darker moments feel connected to the larger story rather than being included only for shock value.

The supporting cast continues to add depth to the series. Olgun Toker and the other members of the investigative team help create a believable working relationship around Önem.

The chemistry between the characters is one of the reasons the investigations remain interesting. They do not always agree, but their different approaches make the team feel more realistic.

The performances also prevent the season from becoming completely focused on its central mystery. There are enough personal moments to remind viewers that these investigators have lives outside their cases.

The biggest problem with Graveyard Season 3 is its pacing. The series has always been a slow-burn crime drama, but this season sometimes takes too long to reach important developments.

The investigations are carefully built, but some viewers may feel that certain scenes could have been shorter. The emotional storylines and crime mysteries occasionally compete for attention, making the overall structure feel slightly stretched.

The episode length can also become tiring, particularly when the investigation moves slowly. Viewers who prefer fast-paced thrillers may need some patience.

Graveyard Season 3 is a strong continuation of Önem Özülkü’s story. It keeps the mystery element alive while giving more attention to the character’s personal struggles and the social problems surrounding the cases.

The serious approach to women’s issues gives the series more weight than a standard crime thriller. Birce Akalay once again delivers a convincing performance, while the supporting cast keeps the investigation engaging.

The slow pacing is the main weakness, but it does not completely take away from the experience. Overall, Season 3 is a thoughtful, dark and gripping crime drama that should satisfy viewers who enjoyed the first two seasons.
