Part Timers JioHotstar Review: Silly, Simple, and Just Good Enough for a Casual Watch

Part Timers JioHotstar Review - Silly, Simple, and Just Good Enough for a Casual Watch

Part Timers JioHotstar Review: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

Part Timers is silly and predictable in places, but its simple story and short episodes make it an easy watch. It does not offer anything extraordinary, yet its relatable characters and a few funny moments are enough to keep things moving.

    Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
    Language: Telugu
    Genre: Sitcom, Comedy
Runtime: Approximately 2 hours (4 episodes)
    Director: Sampath Kumar Thota
    Cast: Gnaneswari Kandregula, Thanuja Puttaswamy

Part Timers is the kind of show that does not ask for too much of your attention. It has a simple setup, a few familiar jokes, and characters that are easy to figure out. This JioHotstar sitcom follows two young women from very different backgrounds who end up sharing an apartment.

The story centres on Teju and Sindhu. They have different personalities and different ideas about life, but both want the same basic thing: the freedom to make their own choices without constantly being judged for it.

Teju is the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Her father can easily cover all her expenses, but Teju does not want to lean on him forever. She secretly drives a cab, hoping to prove she can build a life entirely on her own terms.

Her independent streak, though, also makes her a bit careless at times. She is messy, lazy, and not particularly interested in following rules, which becomes a real problem with her neighbours, who always seem to be looking for a reason to complain about her.

Part Timers JioHotstar Review - Is This Sitcom Worth Watching

Sindhu is almost the complete opposite. She is responsible, hardworking, and organised, working a corporate job while living with her conservative uncle, who wants nothing more than to see her settle down and get married.

Unable to put up with his constant restrictions any longer, Sindhu decides to move out. Her decision eventually brings her into Teju’s world, and that is really where most of the comedy kicks in.

The biggest strength of Part Timers is the contrast between its two leads. Teju and Sindhu do not immediately hit it off. Their first meeting actually goes badly, and even Sindhu’s attempts to smooth things over do not really work.

Their differences spark several small conflicts inside the apartment. Sindhu wants a clean, peaceful home, while Teju is perfectly happy with a messy room and doing things entirely her own way.

Slowly, though, the two start to understand each other better. Their friendship is not particularly deep at first, but there is enough chemistry between them to make the relationship genuinely watchable.

The show also uses their different backgrounds to talk about independence interestingly. Teju has money but wants freedom from her father’s control, while Sindhu has fewer financial advantages but wants freedom from her family’s expectations.

Gnaneswari Kandregula is a solid fit for Teju. She looks genuinely comfortable playing the rebellious young woman trying to live life differently from what her family expects.

Thanuja Puttaswamy provides a nice contrast as Sindhu, whose character is quieter and more practical. The difference between the two actresses actually helps the roommate dynamic work well.

That said, neither performance is exactly outstanding. Both actors do what the roles ask of them, but the writing never quite gives them enough depth to build genuinely memorable characters.

Part Timers has a handful of genuinely funny moments, particularly in its dialogue. Some of the jokes involving Teju’s wealthy father land well, since he talks about his massive business empire as if it were nothing special at all.

Sindhu’s mother also provides some quirky comedy through her habit of turning almost every event in her life into a WhatsApp status. A few lines from Sindhu’s office peon add some fun too.

That said, the humour is genuinely uneven throughout. Some situations feel exaggerated purely to make Teju look irresponsible, and the neighbour conflicts in particular do not always land the way the show seems to expect them to.

There is also a party joke involving a woman being treated like property that comes across as uncomfortable rather than funny.

The basic idea behind Part Timers is actually pretty good. Putting two women with different personalities and social backgrounds under one roof gives the writers plenty of room for both humour and emotional moments.

Teju’s goal of building a business within three months also gives the story some real direction. Sindhu ends up becoming important to that plan, which gradually gives their relationship more weight.

Still, the show often reaches for easy jokes instead of properly exploring its characters. Teju’s decision to become a cab driver could have used more explanation, and some of her actions feel a bit inconsistent as a result.

The background score is better than the title song, and the cinematography is mostly functional. The episodes are short and crisp, though, which is definitely one of the show’s advantages.

Part Timers is not a sitcom that is going to surprise you with anything completely new. It is simple, occasionally funny, and sometimes a little too silly.

But that might be enough for viewers just looking for something light. With only four episodes making up around two hours of viewing, the show is easy to knock out over a weekend.

If you enjoy casual sitcoms with a local flavour and are not expecting complicated storytelling, Part Timers is worth a try. Just keep your expectations realistic and treat it as easy entertainment rather than a must-see comedy.
