Final Project Review - A Smart Teen Thriller That Turns the Internet Into Its Most Dangerous Villain

    Final Project Review: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Final Project is one of Netflix’s strongest teen thrillers in recent years. It combines emotional storytelling with psychological suspense, creating a binge-worthy series that stays relevant because its biggest villain isn’t a person—it’s the digital world teenagers live in every day.

    Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
    Platform: Netflix
    Release: July 29, 2026
    Language: Spanish (Mexican)
Cast: Azul Guaita, Andrés Baida, Ana Valeria Becerril and ensemble cast
    Episodes: 8

Teen dramas have become one of Netflix’s strongest genres, but many of them rely on the same formula of romance, parties, and shocking twists. Final Project tries something different.

Instead of making school life glamorous, it focuses on the emotional damage caused by cyberbullying, anonymous online attacks, and the pressure of fitting into a world where every post, photo, and message can change someone’s life overnight.

The story follows Tamara, a quiet goth teenager who transfers to a new school hoping to leave her troubled past behind. She wants a fresh beginning, but things quickly spiral out of control when anonymous accounts begin targeting her.

Rumors spread across social media, classmates turn against her, and every day becomes a fight to protect her reputation and mental health. What begins as online bullying slowly turns into a psychological game where nobody can be trusted.

One of the biggest strengths of Final Project is its lead character. Tamara is not written as a perfect teenage heroine. She is guarded, vulnerable, and often makes mistakes, which makes her feel believable.

The series slowly reveals her fears and secrets instead of explaining everything immediately, allowing viewers to understand her emotional journey step by step. Her struggle feels genuine because the writing never treats her pain as just another plot device.

The relationship between Tamara and Xavi adds another layer to the story. Xavi is charming, popular, and impossible to fully understand. At first, he appears to be part of the problem, but as the story unfolds, their relationship becomes more complicated than a simple romance or rivalry.

Trust, manipulation, attraction, and suspicion constantly collide, keeping viewers guessing about his true intentions until the later episodes.

What makes the series stand out is how realistically it portrays today’s online culture. The internet is never just a backdrop—it becomes part of the story itself.

Fake profiles, anonymous messages, social pressure, and public humiliation feel frightening because they mirror situations that many teenagers experience in real life.

The series avoids preaching about social media and instead allows the consequences of online cruelty to speak for themselves.

Visually, Final Project looks polished and stylish without becoming distracting. The dark color palette matches Tamara’s personality and helps create a constant feeling of unease.

The school setting feels believable, while the cinematography quietly builds tension instead of relying on loud action sequences or unnecessary jump scares.

The pacing is another major positive. Every episode introduces new questions while revealing just enough information to keep viewers invested. The mystery unfolds naturally, and the cliffhangers encourage binge-watching without feeling forced.

Even during slower moments, the emotional tension remains strong because the audience is always waiting for the next twist.

The supporting cast also deserves credit. Rather than existing only to support the lead character, many classmates have their own motivations and secrets.

This makes it difficult to immediately decide who can be trusted. As alliances change and hidden truths come to light, the series becomes more engaging with every episode.

That said, Final Project is not without flaws. Some story twists feel familiar to anyone who regularly watches teen thrillers. A few supporting characters could have received more development, and certain emotional scenes move slightly too quickly before the audience has time to fully absorb them.

These issues do not hurt the series too much, but they do stop it from becoming a truly exceptional thriller. The show’s biggest achievement is that it never forgets its emotional core. Beneath the mystery and suspense is a story about loneliness, identity, friendship, and the desperate need to belong.

It reminds viewers that online attacks do not simply disappear after a notification is deleted—they leave emotional scars that can last much longer than people realize.

Unlike many modern teen dramas that depend mainly on shocking twists, Final Project succeeds because it builds genuine emotional investment in its characters.

By the time the mystery reaches its conclusion, viewers care about what happens to Tamara just as much as they care about discovering who is behind the attacks.

Final Project may not completely reinvent the teen thriller genre, but it tells its story with confidence, strong performances, and a timely message that feels more relevant than ever. It is suspenseful, emotionally engaging, and surprisingly thoughtful throughout its run.

Final Verdict: If you’re looking for a Netflix series that combines psychological suspense with realistic teenage drama, Final Project is an easy recommendation. It is stylish, emotionally grounded, and consistently engaging from beginning to end. More importantly, it reminds us that the most dangerous battles today are often fought behind a phone screen rather than face to face.

Final Project is now streaming on Netflix.
