UIDAI has recently launched a new e-Aadhaar app, which comes with several upgraded features compared to the existing mAadhaar app. This new app is now available for both Android and iOS users. The government introduced it to provide a paperless experience for document verification and other official tasks. However, after the launch, many people are confused about the differences between the mAadhaar app and the new e-Aadhaar app. Let’s understand how both apps are different.
UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) shared information about the new app on its X handle, calling it smart, secure, and paperless. However, the new app does not replace the older mAadhaar app. Both apps are stand-alone and are used for different purposes. mAadhaar was launched as a mobile-first platform, while the new e-Aadhaar app is designed for broader digital identity usage.
Difference Between mAadhaar and the New e-Aadhaar App
The mAadhaar app was the first mobile application launched by UIDAI. It offers many Aadhaar-related services, such as downloading e-Aadhaar, generating a Virtual ID (VID), downloading the Aadhaar PDF, locking or unlocking Aadhaar, and updating details.
The new e-Aadhaar app allows users to link up to 5 different Aadhaar profiles. This means you can add Aadhaar details of all your family members, provided all Aadhaar numbers are linked to the same mobile number. The app also supports face authentication, making it more secure. Additionally, users can share their digital identity through a QR code. UIDAI has launched this app mainly for paperless verification services.
