Delhi to Vadodara in 9 Hours: NHAI Set to Open 845-km Stretch of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway by October

In a major relief for commuters traveling from Delhi to Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is set to open an 845-km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway by October. This stretch is part of the larger 1,386-km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which will be the longest in the country once completed.

According to NHAI, 80% of the expressway is finished, with the Delhi-Vadodara section nearing completion. While the project was initially set for completion in August, technical delays have pushed the date to October, with officials confident it will be ready by Diwali.

Previously, a 293-km stretch from Delhi to Dausa Sawai Madhopur and a 245-km section from Jhalawar, Ratlam, and Gujarat were opened to the public. The remaining 159-km stretch from Sawai Madhopur to Jhalawar, along with the 148-km section from the Madhya Pradesh-Gujarat border to Vadodara, is expected to be completed soon.

The expressway will begin in Sohna, Haryana, and extend through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, connecting major cities like Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Bhopal, Indore, and Surat. The current road distance from Delhi to Vadodara, around 1,300 km, will be reduced to 900 km once the expressway is fully operational, cutting travel time to just nine hours, compared to over 14 hours by train.

This development is expected to significantly boost trade and economic activities, while also greatly improving travel times across the region.
