75% Eligibility Criteria Removed by Education Ministry for Jee Mains 2021

The 75% eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Mains has been waived off, as confirmed by the Union Education Minister Ramesh “Nishank” Pokhriyal for JEE Mains 2021.

    75%

Earlier, the minimum requirement to appear for the competitive exam was to have scored a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12 Board, in order to apply for courses like BE, BArch, BTech, BPlanning and other courses in IITs, NITs, SPAs and CFTIs.

The Education Minister’s tweet regarding this update on Twitter read, “Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE(Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, it has been decided to waive off the 75% marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-22.”

NITs have also decided to admit undergraduates on the basis of their JEE Mains result after the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) removed this criteria as well for NITs and CFTIs last year.

JEE is a competitive exam conducted yearly to gain entry into 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 other government funded institutions.

It is set to be conducted four times starting this year, and the first session will be in February 2021.

Students can still apply for this year’s JEE Mains as there are still applications being accepted at https://jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Earlier all NITs used to demand for 75% eligibility in board examinations or demanded for a place in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.

Now, Joint Admission Board (JAB), which is the conducting body of IIT JEE Advanced, has also reportedly relaxed this criteria.

In order to qualify for JEE Advanced, you need to crack JEE Mains first, and qualifying in JEE Advanced allows an undergraduate to gain admission into Science, Engineering and Architecture courses across 23 IITs.

This relaxation will allow a greater number of deserving students in these prestigious Government-funded institutions.
