Vishwanath and Sons Movie Review: Suriya and Mamitha Baiju Shine in This Heartwarming Family Entertainer

Suriya brings charm and maturity to the lead role, while Mamitha Baiju steals the show with her natural performance. Despite a slightly uneven second half, the film ends on a genuinely satisfying note.

Vishwanath and Sons Movie Review: Suriya and Mamitha Baiju Shine in This Heartwarming Family Entertainer

Vishwanath and Sons Movie Review: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Vishwanath and Sons is a refreshing family drama that mixes comedy, emotion, and modern relationships without becoming too heavy. The first half is particularly strong, Mamitha Baiju is a standout, and the emotional climax gives the film a warm finish.

    Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
    Director: Venky Atluri
    Language: Telugu
Cast: Suriya, Mamitha Baiju, Radhika, Nassar, Ravina Tandon

There is something instantly likeable about Vishwanath and Sons. The film takes a fairly emotional family situation and presents it in a modern, easy-going way. Instead of filling every emotional scene with loud background music and long speeches, director Venky Atluri keeps the treatment contemporary and lets the characters carry the story.

The film follows Sanjay Vishwanath, played by Suriya, a former Olympic shooting gold medallist who later becomes a successful businessman. He has money, fame and a comfortable life, but there is one thing his family keeps reminding him about — he is still unmarried even after turning 40.

His mother, played by Radhika, wants him to settle down. Sanjay, however, appears comfortable with the life he has built for himself. Things change when he travels to the US and eventually returns to India with a baby boy born through surrogacy.

    Vishwanath and Sons Movie Review

The story takes an emotional turn when the child needs a bone marrow transplant. Sanjay is left with very few options and begins searching for the surrogate mother in the US. He eventually brings her to India, even if doing so means bending a few rules.

What happens after she becomes part of the Vishwanath family forms the heart of the film. The story is not simply about a father trying to save his child. It is also about relationships, motherhood, family expectations and the unexpected ways people can become connected.

Suriya is perfectly suited to the role of Sanjay. He plays the character as a mature, successful man without making him feel arrogant or larger than life. There is a relaxed quality to his performance, and his chemistry with the other members of the cast keeps the family portions engaging.

Radhika also brings warmth to the film. The relationship between her character and Sanjay is one of the more convincing emotional threads. Their scenes have the feeling of a real mother and son, especially when their different ideas about family and marriage come into conflict.

But the biggest surprise is Mamitha Baiju.

Her character is written with a lot of personality, and the actress makes the most of it. Playing a woman coming from the US, Mamitha gets the accent, body language, attitude and dialogue delivery right without pushing the character into caricature. She feels natural, which makes her scenes enjoyable.

The first half is easily the film’s strongest section. The comedy works well, the characters are introduced smoothly and the emotional moments arrive without becoming too dramatic. The contemporary setting, stylish visuals and Gen-Z references also give the film a fresh flavour.

The TV studio sequence is particularly effective because it brings together the film’s humour and emotional side. It is one of those scenes where the characters’ feelings come through without the movie having to explain everything.

Unfortunately, the second half is less consistent.

Once the main relationship becomes the central focus, some portions start to feel repetitive. The film then introduces another mother figure’s backstory and a subplot involving her daughter’s marriage. These sections are not terrible, but they feel disconnected from the main emotional journey and slow the film down.

Nassar helps bring some much-needed comedy during this stretch, but the screenplay takes a little too long to return to its main track.

Thankfully, the film recovers as it approaches the climax. The ending brings emotional closure to the principal characters and gives the audience the warm feeling the film has been building towards.

Another interesting aspect is the limited use of songs. The film does not depend heavily on musical numbers to move the story forward. The popular Mamitha Baiju song and an emotional track are the ones that stand out, while G.V. Prakash Kumar’s background score supports the emotional scenes effectively.

The production values are also impressive. The rich locations and polished presentation add to the film’s modern feel, although a few early shots appear slightly blurry.

Vishwanath and Sons is a pleasant family entertainer that combines modern relationships with traditional family emotions. Suriya gives a classy and mature performance, while Mamitha Baiju is the clear show-stealer.

The second half could have been tighter, but the strong first half, engaging performances and heartwarming climax make up for most of its shortcomings. If you are looking for a clean, emotional and easy-going film to watch with family or young viewers, Vishwanath and Sons is a solid choice.
