Spider-Man: Brand New Day Budget & Cast Salary

Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man film is the 38th MCU movie overall, and the money behind it reflects just how much bigger the stakes have become since his $500,000 debut in Homecoming

Spider-Man Brand New Day — Cast Salary and Budget - Tom Holland Tops the Cast Salary List

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing on July 30, 2026, is the fourth MCU Spider-Man film and one of the biggest tentpole releases of the summer. The budget is enormous. The cast is stacked. And the box office expectations sitting on top of all of it are equally significant.

Here is what we know about where the money is going.

The Production Budget: $200 to $220 Million

Marvel and Sony have not confirmed the budget publicly — they rarely do — but industry analysis and comparison with previous entries in the franchise put the estimate firmly in the $200 to $220 million range.

That places it on par with Spider-Man: No Way Home, the $200 million production that went on to earn $1.92 billion worldwide in 2021. The inflation-adjusted cost increase is modest, but the film’s scale justifies the number: location filming in Glasgow and London, soundstage work at Pinewood Studios, a significant visual effects workload, and a cast that includes multiple major MCU stars alongside Tom Holland.

The breakdown of that budget looks roughly like this:

    CategoryEstimated Cost
    Cast and above-the-line salaries$60–75 million
    Below-the-line production$70–85 million
    Visual effects and post-production$50–70 million
    Insurance, legal, contingency$10–15 million
    Marketing (separate)$120–150 million

The marketing budget is worth noting separately because it is substantial on its own — roughly half the production cost again, spent entirely on promotion. When people wonder why blockbuster films need to earn so much to be considered profitable, that marketing line item is a large part of the answer.

Tom Holland — From $500,000 to $15–20 Million

The most remarkable number in this breakdown is not the total budget. It is Tom Holland’s individual trajectory.

When Holland first appeared as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War and then led Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, his salary was reportedly around $500,000 — which was standard for a relative newcomer anchoring his first major franchise role.

Nine years, three solo films, and multiple MCU appearances later, Holland’s estimated fee for Brand New Day is $15 to $20 million base, with a reported backend participation of five to eight percent of first-dollar gross. If the film performs as analysts expect — somewhere in the $1.2 to $1.5 billion range worldwide — that backend participation alone could be worth significantly more than the base fee.

That kind of salary growth is not just about one actor. It reflects what the Spider-Man franchise has become: one of the most reliable commercial properties in Hollywood, with a loyal global fanbase and a track record that makes the investment straightforward to justify.

    Full Cast Salary Breakdown

Jon BernthalFrank Castle / Punisher$4–6 million

    Tramell TillmanSupporting$500K–1 million

    Mark Ruffalo — The A-List MCU Co-Star

Mark Ruffalo’s estimated $8 to $12 million continues a pattern established across the MCU’s Spider-Man films. Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Benedict Cumberbatch all commanded significant fees for their appearances in earlier entries. Ruffalo’s Hulk brings the same kind of MCU weight to Brand New Day, and his salary reflects that.

The presence of a character as significant as Bruce Banner in a Spider-Man film also signals that Brand New Day is doing something more ambitious narratively than just a standalone street-level adventure. Marvel does not pay $10 million for a cameo.

    Jon Bernthal as the Punisher

Jon Bernthal’s $4 to $6 million estimate is one of the more interesting figures in the cast breakdown. The Punisher is a street-level Marvel character who fits naturally into Spider-Man’s world, and Bernthal’s version of Frank Castle has a devoted fanbase from his Netflix series days. Bringing him into the MCU through a Spider-Man film is a deliberate choice, and the salary reflects a significant rather than a minor role.

    Zendaya — A Reduced Role

Zendaya’s estimated $5 to $8 million comes with an asterisk. Reports suggest her role in Brand New Day may be reduced due to scheduling conflicts — specifically the production demands of Euphoria Season 3 and Dune: Part Three. Her screen time may be more limited than in No Way Home, which would explain why her fee sits below what her current star power might otherwise command.

Sadie Sink and the New Addition

Sadie Sink receives an estimated $2 to $4 million for what is described as a significant new role — with some speculation pointing toward a possible Jean Grey appearance, though Marvel has not confirmed character details. Whatever the role, the salary range suggests she is not a brief cameo but a meaningful part of the story.

    The Creative Team

    RoleNameEstimated Fee
    DirectorDestin Daniel Cretton$8–12 million
WritersChris McKenna & Erik Sommers$4–6 million combined
ProducersAmy Pascal & Kevin Feige$3–5 million each

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, commands a significant director’s fee that reflects Marvel’s confidence in him following that film’s success. McKenna and Sommers are returning writers from the previous trilogy, which provides narrative continuity as well as creative shorthand — they know these characters and this world already.

    How the Previous Films Performed

    FilmBudgetWorldwide Gross
    Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)$175 million$880 million
    Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)$160 million$1.13 billion
    Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)$200 million$1.92 billion
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)$200–220 millionProjected $1.2–1.5 billion

The trajectory is clear, and the projection for Brand New Day reflects both the franchise’s proven commercial strength and some moderation in expectation — No Way Home‘s $1.92 billion was driven by the unprecedented nostalgia element of multiple Spider-Man actors appearing together, a factor that cannot be replicated.

A $1.2 to $1.5 billion worldwide result would still represent a very successful film given the budget and would comfortably justify continued investment in the franchise from both Sony and Marvel.

    Production Details

Filming began on August 3, 2025, with location work in Glasgow, Scotland — giving the film a distinctive visual character different from the New York settings of previous entries. Soundstage work followed at Pinewood Studios in England. The Jackie Chan Stunt Team is handling the action sequences, which explains some of the below-the-line production cost.

The new Spider-Man costume has already been revealed through promotional material, and early response from fans has been positive.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in cinemas worldwide on July 30, 2026.
