Bijoy Nambiar’s Shaitaan plunges us headfirst into a world where morality frays, rationality unravels, and the fine line between good and evil blurs. This supernatural thriller, starring Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, has you hooked from the first scene and won’t let go till the credits roll.

Kabir and his family’s seemingly lovely weekend getaway turns gloomy as they accept a nice but mysterious man into their house. As the time ticks, their lives descend into a nightmare fuelled by old Indian black magic. The home becomes a struggle for their most primal fears, as terrible forces hiding in the shadows threaten to swallow them.

Ajay Devgn gives a somber portrayal as Kabir, the patriarch dealing with his own issues. His performance portrays the fragility of a father caught between defending his family and battling the dark forces that threaten them.

    R. Madhavan, in a break from his regular roles, portrays a dogged detective trying to solve the mystery. His quest of the truth leads him down a perilous path, and his unrelenting dedication gives depth to the story.

The supporting cast impresses, each adding to the film’s gritty tone. Every individual in this psychological chess game has a part to play, from family members plagued by their history to the mysterious stranger who disturbs their serenity.

Shaitaan is not a conventional horror film. It doesn’t rely on jump scares or otherworldly elements. Instead, it looks into the psychology of metropolitan people, who are wealthy, irresponsible, and on the verge of disaster. The film depicts the dark underbelly of excess, when hedonism and desperation combine.

Bijoy Nambiar’s directing is a surprise. He creates tension in every shot, employing darkly lit hallways, rain-soaked streets, and cramped interiors to heighten the sense of imminent disaster. The shoot-out scenario, set to the eerie version of “Khoya Khoya Chand,” is a masterstroke.

Shaitaan is a rollercoaster trip through the maze of human fragility. It’s not only about black magic; it’s about the monsters we keep inside. As the family confronts their deepest fears, the film challenges our own morals. Is there redemption in the face of evil? Watch Shaitaan to find out.
