The Galaxy M31 is the latest smartphone in Samsung’s lineup of affordable online-exclusive devices designed specifically launched for the Indian audience. This new mid range powerhouse is here with pretty decent specifications.

This time, Samsung has been focusing on competitive hardware and attractive displays at affordable prices. The Korean manufacturer have previously launched Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30, and Galaxy M30s in their lineup of M series and they all have successfully set benchmarks on their own segments.

Samsung stands toe-to-toe in the competition with Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and Oppo. And sticking to the M series tradition, here is the new installment of the smartphone, the Galaxy M31. So let’s see what the Samsung M31 got under the hood.

Design

The successor in the M series, the Galaxy M31 packs 6.4. inch Super AMOLED displays with a Full-HD+ resolution with a waterdrop notch called the Infinity U displays.

Same as earlier, Samsung has used plastic in the construction of the smartphone body. Guarded by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the 191g light design made it easier for users to hold the phone tightly. The Galaxy M31 comes with a curve design on sides which adds beauty to the phone display.

The power button and volume rockers are situated on the right and the sim tray is on the left, which is perfect going by the traditional design. The power button is easy to reach but the volume rockers could have been positioned better.

Additionally, The Galaxy M31 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, primary microphone and speaker at the bottom.

On the back, you get to see some big changes this time from the company’s side. The Galaxy M31 comes with a 4-camera set up added with a Fingerprint scanner placed centrally on the back of the device.

There is no provision of a protective case for the phone in the box, which is what we’ve seen previously with the other M series devices as well.

Hardware

The smartphone is powered by a 2.3GHz Exynos 9611 octa-core chipset based on a 10nm process. Exynos 9611 is an octa-core processor with 4 performance ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and 4 efficiency Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz.

Also equipped with Mali G72 MP3 GPU, this time Samsung has bumped up the base variant regarding the hardware specifications. Earlier the M series had 4GB RAM, but this time even the base variant boasts of a 6GB RAM, which delivers a smoother multitasking experience.

Additionally, the phone comes with Android 10-based One UI 2.0 software which is fairly simple and provides an easy-to-use interface.

Samsung’s added features including Bixby and Bixby Home are missing. But the feel of the sleek software interface delivers at par user-friendly experience.

The Galaxy M31 has 2 Nano-SIM slots and support 4G as well as VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The Galaxy M31 comes in 2 variants: the 64GB and 128GB storage model. This can be further expanded by up to 512GB via microSD cards.

Camera

When it was introduced, the 4 rear camera setup made the headlines all over the tech world. The quad-camera set up houses a 64-megapixel resolution and f/1.8 aperture primary camera.

This allows you to take 16-megapixel binned shots by default which you can switch to the full resolution afterward.

Additionally, one 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123-degree field of view and an f/2.2 aperture is present which provides the base of your beautiful snapshots.

The other two are a 5-megapixel depth sensor and a 5-megapixel macro camera. The front comes with a 32 Megapixel selfie shooter completes the better part of the phone.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a massive 6,000mAh battery, which is unchanged from the Galaxy M30s. Like any other M series smartphone, the Galaxy M31 makes it a reliable investment in battery life.

Many credible reviewers tested the phone’s battery backup, keeping the brightness at the highest and adding more background apps overall pushing the device to its limits.

And just like expected, the results were great, all thanks to the massive 6000 mAh powerhouse. The new Galaxy M31 delivers a 2-day battery back up life which is a great deal for today’s necessity.
