Pluto Movie Review - A Charming Malayalam Sci-Fi Comedy That Delivers Laughs, Warmth, and a Refreshing Family Adventure

    Pluto Movie Review: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Pluto is a refreshing Malayalam sci-fi comedy that combines village humor, emotional storytelling, and an unusual alien friendship into an entertaining family film. Its simple charm and lovable performances make it an easy and enjoyable watch.

    Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
    Director: Adithyan Chandrashekar
    Release: July 30, 2026
    Language: Malayalam
Cast: Neeraj Madhav, Althaf Salim, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Aju Varghese

Science fiction is still a relatively rare genre in Malayalam cinema, especially when combined with comedy and family entertainment.

Pluto arrives with a fresh idea by bringing an alien into a quiet village and letting the story unfold through humor, friendship, and unexpected adventures.

Instead of focusing on visual spectacle or large-scale action, the film focuses on ordinary people whose peaceful lives change after meeting an extraordinary visitor.

The story revolves around a calm village where everyone knows each other, and life moves at its own relaxed pace. Everything changes when a mysterious alien unexpectedly arrives.

Rather than creating fear, the visitor slowly becomes part of the villagers’ everyday lives, leading to funny misunderstandings, emotional moments, and plenty of surprising situations. This unusual concept gives Pluto a unique identity among recent Malayalam releases.

One of the film’s biggest strengths is its simple storytelling. The screenplay never tries to become overly complicated with scientific explanations or complex theories. Instead, it treats the alien as a character who helps reveal the kindness, curiosity, and occasional foolishness of the people around him. This approach makes the story easy to follow for viewers of all ages.

Neeraj Madhav delivers a confident performance as Vicky, bringing both energy and emotional depth to the role. His natural acting style fits perfectly with the film’s relaxed tone. Whether he is reacting to strange situations or sharing heartfelt moments, he keeps the audience emotionally connected throughout the story.

Althaf Salim, playing Pluto, adds another memorable performance. Without relying only on comedy, he creates a character that feels innocent, mysterious, and genuinely lovable. Much of the film’s charm comes from the interactions between his character and the villagers, especially as trust slowly replaces confusion and fear.

Aarsha Chandini Baiju and Aju Varghese provide solid support to the main story. Aju Varghese once again proves his timing in comedy, delivering several light-hearted moments without making the humor feel forced. The supporting cast works together naturally, giving the village a lively and believable atmosphere.

Director Adithyan Chandrashekar deserves credit for choosing a fresh subject and presenting it in an accessible way. Instead of making a serious science-fiction film, he focuses on emotions, relationships, and family entertainment. The balance between comedy and sentiment remains steady for most of the runtime, allowing the audience to enjoy both the laughs and the emotional moments.

Visually, Pluto creates a pleasant atmosphere with its beautiful village locations and colorful cinematography. The natural surroundings give the film warmth and authenticity, while the visual effects used for the alien remain simple and effective without becoming distracting. The movie understands that strong storytelling matters more than expensive CGI.

The music also supports the film well. The songs blend naturally into the narrative, while the background score helps create both humorous and emotional moments. Rather than overpowering the scenes, the music quietly enhances the overall experience.

What makes Pluto stand out is its positive message. Beneath the comedy lies a story about acceptance, friendship, kindness, and learning to embrace differences. The alien becomes a symbol of someone who appears different but ultimately shares the same emotions and desire for connection as everyone else. This emotional layer gives the film more depth than a typical comedy.

The film is not completely without flaws. Some scenes follow familiar comedy formulas, and a few jokes may feel predictable for viewers who regularly watch family entertainers. The story also plays it safe and avoids taking bigger creative risks that could have made it even more memorable. However, these are only minor issues in an otherwise enjoyable film.

The pacing remains comfortable throughout, with the narrative moving smoothly between comedy, emotional moments, and light suspense. Families, children, and general audiences are likely to appreciate the film’s clean humor and feel-good storytelling.

Unlike many recent films that depend heavily on action or dark themes, Pluto chooses simplicity. It reminds viewers that a heartfelt story with lovable characters can still be entertaining without relying on unnecessary spectacle. Its gentle humor and emotional sincerity make it an easy recommendation for a relaxed weekend watch.

Strong performances, a unique premise, and a warm emotional core help the film stand out despite its familiar storytelling style. It may not be a groundbreaking sci-fi adventure, but it succeeds as a wholesome entertainer that audiences of all ages can enjoy.

Pluto is now playing in theatres.
