Mortal Kombat 2 is an upcoming American martial arts fantasy film directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater. Based on the video game franchise Mortal Kombat, created by John Tobias and Ed Boon, the film serves as a sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat and is the fourth installment in the Mortal Kombat film series. The cast includes returning stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Newcomers to the series include Karl Urban, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, Desmond Chiam, Ana Thu Nguyen, CJ Bloomfield, and Damon Herriman.
Mortal Kombat 2 Release Date
Following the release of Mortal Kombat in April 2021, producer Todd Garner, writer Greg Russo, and director Simon McQuoid began discussing the franchise’s future, including standalone films for Johnny Cage and Bi-Han, as well as a sequel. Cast members and crew expressed interest in returning, and by 2022, Warner Bros. had green-lit the sequel with Jeremy Slater writing the screenplay and McQuoid directing. Filming started in June 2023 in Australia, paused in mid-July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, resumed in mid-November, and wrapped in late January 2024. Mortal Kombat 2 is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 24, 2025.

Mortal Kombat 2 Plot
In Mortal Kombat 2, Cole Young, now a seasoned fighter, teams up with iconic warriors such as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Liu Kang to defend Earthrealm. As they train and prepare for the next tournament, they face new threats from Outworld, led by the fearsome Shao Kahn. Bi-Han, resurrected as Noob Saibot, seeks revenge against Hanzo Hasashi, now Scorpion. The heroes must also confront Quan Chi and his dark magic, which threatens to tip the balance in Outworld’s favor. Amidst epic battles and alliances, the fate of Earthrealm hangs in the balance, leading to a climactic showdown.
