    Gustaakh Ishq Movie Review

Sometimes you just need a simple, heartfelt love story, and Gustaakh Ishq delivers exactly that. I watched it today morning, and it left me with a warm feeling that’s been missing from romantic films lately.

    A Fresh Take on Love

The movie tells the story of Nawabuddin Saifuddin Rahman, who comes to Delhi to learn the art of writing perfect shayari from a retired poet named Aziz. But life has other plans when he falls for Aziz’s daughter Minni, a teacher. What makes it work is how genuine everything feels. The romance doesn’t happen in the first five minutes – it builds slowly, naturally, just like real relationships do.

Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh Create Magic

Vijay Varma brings such sincerity to his role as Nawabuddin that you can’t help but root for him. He’s charming without being over the top, and he handles both the romantic and poetic scenes with equal ease. Watching him recite shayari and stumble through love feels so authentic. This feels like a role he was meant to play.

Fatima Sana Shaikh is absolutely lovely as Minni. She brings grace and strength to her character, making her more than just a typical romantic heroine. The way she expresses emotions – sometimes with just a look or a smile – shows real talent. Her portrayal of a teacher who’s both modern and rooted in tradition is beautiful.

But what really makes this film special is the chemistry between Vijay and Fatima. You can feel the spark between them from their very first scene together. Their conversations feel real, not like scripted dialogues. When they’re happy, you smile with them. When they’re hurting, you feel that pain too.

The Legend Naseeruddin Shah Adds Depth

Naseeruddin Shah as Aziz, the retired poet and Minni’s father, brings such warmth and wisdom to the film. Every scene with him feels special. His character becomes the soul of the movie, representing the old world of poetry and tradition. The way he mentors Vijay’s character while protecting his daughter creates beautiful moments on screen.

Sharib Hashmi as Attachie provides wonderful support and adds some lighter moments to the story. He’s the friend we all need, and his comic timing balances the romantic and emotional scenes perfectly.

    Characters You’ll Care About

What I loved most is how the characters are written as actual people with dreams, fears, and flaws. They’re not perfect, and that makes them relatable. Vijay’s character has his struggles with poetry and love, while Fatima’s character shows both vulnerability and courage. You’ll see yourself or someone you know in these characters.

The setting in old Delhi adds another character to the film. The narrow lanes, the cultural richness, and the world of Urdu poetry all come alive on screen.

    Poetry Meets Romance

The film beautifully weaves shayari and poetry into the love story. It’s not just decoration – the poetry becomes the language of their love. When Vijay’s character tries to express his feelings through verses, sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing, it feels touching and real.

The movie shows that even after years of being together, relationships need effort and honesty. Sure, it delivers this message while making you fall in love with the characters, but it’s there. Misunderstandings happen, but what matters is how you work through them.

Beautiful Music by Vishal Bharadwaj and Gulzar

The songs are absolutely lovely, and with lyrics by the legendary Gulzar and music by Vishal Bharadwaj, how could they not be? I’ve already added them to my playlist. Songs like “Ul Jalool Ishq,” “Aap Iss Dhoop Mein,” and “Sheher Tere” fit perfectly into the story and don’t feel forced.

Watching Vijay and Fatima in these beautifully shot songs is a treat. They look wonderful together, and the chemistry translates perfectly into the musical sequences. The romantic numbers especially are shot in gorgeous locations in Amritsar and Delhi that make you want to explore these cities.

    Visually Stunning

The cinematography captures the essence of old Delhi beautifully. Every frame looks thoughtfully composed. Whether it’s an intimate conversation between the leads or scenes showing the bustling streets and poetry gatherings, everything is shot with care and attention to detail.

Manish Malhotra’s costumes deserve special mention. Making his debut as a producer with this film, he’s also designed the costumes, and they’re stunning. They enhance the characters without overwhelming them.

    Why It Works

In a time when many romantic films rely on over-the-top drama or complicated plots, Gustaakh Ishq keeps things simple and focused on the emotions. It reminds you why we fell in love with love stories in the first place.

Both Vijay and Fatima understand the assignment – they’re not trying to do too much or steal scenes from each other. They work as a team, creating a love story that feels balanced and genuine.

The pacing is just right. Director Vibhu Puri doesn’t rush through important moments, giving the relationship time to develop. You understand why these two people belong together because you’ve been on the journey with them.

    Perfect for a Movie Date

I went with a friend, and we both agreed this would be perfect to watch with your partner or family. It’s clean, it’s sweet, and it celebrates love in a way that feels hopeful and pure. The theater had couples, families, and groups of friends, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Watching Vijay and Fatima’s characters navigate their love story will probably make you think about your own relationships – in a good way.

    A Tribute to Old-School Romance

This film feels like a breath of fresh air in today’s cinema. It takes us back to the era of classic romance where poetry, letters, and meaningful conversations mattered. The old-world charm combined with relatable modern emotions creates something special.

    Final Thoughts

Gustaakh Ishq is a delightful romantic film that understands what makes love stories work – genuine emotions, relatable characters, and a story told with heart. Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s chemistry, Naseeruddin Shah’s commanding presence, beautiful music by Vishal Bharadwaj and Gulzar, and the honest portrayal of love make this worth watching.

The lead pair carries the film on their shoulders and does it with grace. They create a romance you want to believe in. Add to that the magic of Urdu poetry and the backdrop of old Delhi, and you have a film that touches your heart.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

If you’re a fan of sweet, meaningful romance with beautiful poetry woven in, give this one a chance. Vijay and Fatima make a lovely pair, and their love story will remind you why you love romantic movies. The film proves that sometimes simple stories told with honesty and passion are more than enough.

Manish Malhotra has made an impressive debut as a producer, choosing a story that celebrates love, poetry, and culture. This is the kind of cinema we need more of.
