Like every month, from September 2025, several important rules in India are going to change, which will directly impact people’s daily lives and their pockets. These changes include updates related to LPG prices, Income Tax Return (ITR) filing, silver hallmarking, the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), SBI credit card rewards, and postal services.
LPG Cylinder Prices
The government reviews LPG cylinder prices on the 1st of every month, and September will be no exception. The prices of both domestic and commercial cylinders may increase or decrease, directly affecting your kitchen budget. On 1st August 2025, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder was reduced by ₹33.50 per cylinder, while there was no change in domestic cylinder prices.
Last Date for ITR Filing
For non-audited taxpayers (those who do not require an audit), the new deadline to file Income Tax Returns is 15th September 2025, which was earlier 31st July.
UPS Deadline
Central government employees can now opt to join the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) until 30th September 2025. Earlier, the deadline was set to end in June.

Changes in SBI Credit Card Reward Points
SBI Card has announced changes in its reward points policy for select credit cards. From 1st September 2025, SBI Lifestyle, Home Centre, SELECT, and PRIME cardholders will no longer earn reward points on transactions made for digital gaming, government websites, and certain selected merchants.
Silver Jewellery Hallmarking
From 1st September 2025, silver hallmarking will be implemented across the country. Customers will have the option to buy either hallmarked silver or non-hallmarked silver. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced this facility to ensure better quality assurance for silver jewellery.
Merger of Registered Post with Speed Post
From 1st September 2025, India Post will merge Registered Post services with Speed Post. After this, Registered Post will become a part of Speed Post services.
