Forbes has released the list of richest people in the world in 2024 and unsurprisingly, Mukesh Ambani has been named as the richest Indian on the list. This year the billionaires have gotten richer and their numbers have increased significantly. The total number of billionaires in India have crossed 200 for the first time. Last year, there were only 169 billionaires in India. The total net worth of the Indian billionaires is estimated to be US $954 billion. This is 41% more than the last year’s worth as the figure amount to US $675 billion in 2023.
Forbes has said that India has added 25 new billionaires in this financial year. Among Indians, CMD of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Mukesh Ambani led the list of billionaires with a total net worth of $116 billion, followed by Gautam Adani ($84 billion), Shiv Nadar ($36.9 billion), Savitri Jindal & Family ($33.5 billion), and Dilip Shanghvi ($26.7 billion).
The top 20 billionaires in the world have added an aggregate of US $700 billion in wealth since 2023. Only the 1/4th of the total billionaires from 2023 are poorer. According to Forbes, 2/3rd of the billionaires from 2023 have gotten richer. US have a total of 873 billionaires with a combined net worth of US $5.7 trillion. China ranks second on the list of most billionaires with a total of 473.
Currently, there are more billionaires than ever before, with 2,781 in total, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record established in 2021. They are richer than ever, worth $14.2 trillion in aggregate, up by $2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion over the previous record, also achieved in 2021, according to the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024: The Top 200.
