Flight Ticket Rules: Till What Age is a Flight Ticket Required for Children? Know the Important Details

Flights are a convenient mode of transportation for covering long distances in a short time. However, flight tickets are generally more expensive than other modes of travel. If you are planning to travel with children, you must be aware of certain rules regarding their tickets. While children up to five years old can travel for free on trains, do you know till what age kids can fly for free? If not, this article will provide you with all the necessary details.

Different rules apply to children’s flight tickets. Let’s understand at what age a child requires a separate ticket for air travel.

No Separate Seat Needed for Children Below 2 Years

If your child is younger than two years old, they do not require a separate seat on a flight. You can carry them on your lap during the journey. However, some airlines require an infant ticket for such children, which is cheaper than an adult ticket. Airlines also provide special seats or bassinets for infants to ensure a comfortable journey.

If you are flying with an infant, you should be aware of the seating arrangements and safety guidelines provided by the airline.

Mandatory Ticket for Children Aged 2 to 12 Years

For children between 2 and 12 years old, a separate seat is mandatory, and you must purchase a ticket for them. However, these tickets are usually available at a discounted rate compared to adult tickets.

Full Ticket for Children Above 12 Years

Once a child turns 12, airlines consider them as adult passengers. This means that a full-priced ticket must be purchased for children aged 12 and above.
