Citadel Season 3 on Prime Video — Is It Actually Happening? All You Need To Know

Season 2 just ended on a cliffhanger that screamed "more is coming" — but Prime Video hasn't said a word yet. Here's where things actually stand.

Citadel Season 3 on Prime Video — Is It Actually Happening? All You Need To Know

So, Is Citadel Coming Back? Citadel Season 3 Buzz Grows After Season 2 Finale. But, as of now, Prime Video hasn’t renewed Citadel for a third season. They also haven’t cancelled it. The show is sitting in that frustrating limbo that streaming fans know too well — where the platform goes quiet, presumably staring at dashboards full of viewing data, while the rest of us wait.

Given how Season 2 ended, a renewal feels like the logical next step. But “logical” and “how streaming platforms make decisions” don’t always overlap neatly, especially when a show costs as much as this one does. With Citadel Season 2 ending on another intense note, fans are now eager to know whether Prime Video will continue the story with Season 3.

The spy thriller starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden remains one of Prime Video’s biggest global franchises. However, the future of the series is still uncertain. Citadel Season 3 has not been officially renewed yet. Here’s everything we know about the Prime Video spy thriller’s future, possible release date, cast, and storyline.

Why the Wait Might Be Longer Than You’d Hope

Citadel is genuinely one of the most expensive series Prime Video has ever made. The international locations, the scale of the action, the cast — it all adds up to a budget that reportedly made even seasoned Hollywood executives do a double-take.

That kind of money doesn’t get committed to a third season on good vibes alone. Prime Video will want to see how Season 2 actually performed — not just opening weekend numbers, but how many people finished it, how many new subscribers it brought in, and how it performed across different regions.

That evaluation takes time. So even if the internal mood is positive, a formal announcement probably isn’t coming in the next few weeks.

If It Does Get Renewed, When Would Season 3 Actually Air?

Here’s the part that requires some patience.

The gap between Season 1 and Season 2 was almost three years. Some of that was down to production delays, some of it was the sheer logistical complexity of filming a globe-trotting spy thriller on this scale. There’s no real reason to think Season 3 would move significantly faster.

Working from that timeline, a realistic estimate puts a potential Season 3 somewhere around late 2028 or early 2029 — assuming a renewal gets announced in the next six to twelve months. That’s a long wait, and it’s worth being upfront about it rather than pretending a 2027 release is on the cards.

What Actually Happened at the End of Season 2?

Without getting too deep into spoiler territory — Season 2 pushed Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh further into the war against Manticore while expanding the mythology of the whole operation.

The finale didn’t wrap things up cleanly. Several major threads were left deliberately open. New threats were introduced without resolution. Character relationships that have been building across two seasons were left at interesting, complicated places.

It has the feel of a show that was written with more story in mind. Whether that story actually gets told is the part we’re still waiting on.

Also, read the review of Citadel Season 2 here.

Would the Same Cast Come Back?

Almost certainly, if the show returns.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden are the beating heart of the series — it’s hard to imagine a Season 3 that doesn’t centre on Mason and Nadia. Stanley Tucci’s role has been one of the more enjoyable parts of the whole franchise, and there’s no obvious reason he wouldn’t continue.

Characters introduced in Season 2 who survived the finale are also likely candidates for expanded roles. The show has been slowly building a wider roster of operatives, and Season 3 would presumably lean into that.

What Would Season 3 Actually Be About?

The broad shape is fairly predictable at this point — the Citadel vs. Manticore conflict isn’t over, and the political conspiracies underpinning that war haven’t been fully unpacked.

But the more interesting territory, if the show continues, would be the personal stuff. Citadel has always been as much about identity and trust as it is about action sequences. The memory angle — who these characters are when stripped of their history — has been one of the more compelling threads throughout. A third season that pushed that darker and further would be genuinely interesting.

Whether the writing goes there depends on who’s in the room, but the raw material is there.

    What About the Spin-Offs?

Prime Video has been building out the Citadel universe with international versions — different countries, different Citadel operatives, connected by the same broader mythology. The reception to those has been mixed, which may or may not factor into how the platform views the franchise overall.

The main series and the spin-offs are somewhat separate bets, but they’re all part of the same brand. If the wider universe feels like it’s losing steam, that probably doesn’t help the case for a very expensive Season 3.

    What Are Fans Actually Saying?

Reactions online have been, honestly, split. There’s a passionate audience that’s deeply invested in the characters and wants the story to continue. There’s also a contingent that has found the show’s ambition occasionally outpacing its storytelling.

Both camps are talking about it, though — and in the streaming era, conversation counts for something. The show continues to generate genuine discussion, which has to be worth something when Prime Video is running the numbers.

    Is Citadel Season 3 Happening?

Citadel Season 3 has not been confirmed. It has not been cancelled. Right now, it exists in the space between those two things, waiting for Prime Video to crunch the Season 2 numbers and make a call.

The ending of Season 2 suggests the creators have more story to tell. The franchise’s track record suggests the platform still sees value in it. But whether those two things translate into a green light — and the considerable budget that comes with it — is something only Prime Video knows.

For now, both seasons are available on Prime Video. If you haven’t finished Season 2 yet, that’s probably the best use of your waiting time.
