Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden have earned an equal amount of fee as their salary for the Citadel web series, which is made on a huge budget of US $300 million. The show was earlier expected to be made on a budget of US $60 million, but the production cost swelled up after a few crew members backed out during the shooting due to creative differences.
Citadel’s seeds were planted by Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke, who approached the Russo brothers and their independent studio AGBO in mid-2018 about creating an ambitious, global spy show. The series was created in collaboration with AGBO and the screenwriting duo Midnight Radio (Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec). However, due to creative differences with the Russos, they left the show during production in 2021, and David Weil took over as the new showrunner. This shift in direction necessitated extensive reshoots in 2022.
