Big News for Train Passengers: No Travel Allowed in Sleeper or AC Coaches with Waiting Tickets from May 1

Category-

There’s an important update for people who travel by train. Starting from May 1, 2025, passengers with waiting list tickets will not be allowed to travel in Sleeper or AC coaches. If you have a waiting ticket, you will only be permitted to travel in general coaches. The Indian Railways has announced that from May 1 onwards, travelling in Sleeper or AC coaches with a waiting ticket will be strictly prohibited.

What Changes from May 1?

  • Passengers with waiting tickets will only be allowed to travel in general class coaches.
  • This rule is being implemented to ensure the comfort and safety of confirmed ticket holders.
  • If any passenger is found travelling in Sleeper or AC class with a waiting ticket, the TTE can fine them or send them to the general coach.

Why Are These Rules Becoming Strict?

According to Captain Shashi Kiran, the Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, passengers with waiting tickets often forcibly enter Sleeper or AC coaches. This causes disputes over seats and leads to overcrowding, making it difficult for other passengers to move around. The new rules are meant to ensure safe and comfortable travel for everyone.

New Rule for Online Bookings Too

  • Tickets booked through IRCTC that are not confirmed will now be automatically cancelled.
  • Earlier, some people used to get waiting tickets from the counter and enter reserved coaches. This will no longer be allowed.

What Should You Keep in Mind Before Travelling?

  • Always check if your ticket is confirmed before your journey.
  • If your ticket is still in waiting, either travel in the general coach or reschedule your journey.
  • To avoid fines and inconvenience, make sure to follow the new railway rules.
