In the past, the messaging platform has been exploited by fraudsters to deceive individuals and abscond with their money due to the app’s easy accessibility to users. With approximately two billion monthly active users, WhatsApp has once more become a prime target for scammers. This time, WhatsApp users are receiving fraud calls from international numbers from different countries like Ethiopia (+251), Malaysia (+60), Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), Vietnam (+84) and others.

Currently, it remains unclear as to why individuals are being targeted with these calls. However, it has been observed that the frequency of these calls ranges from moderate to high. Some individuals have reported receiving 2 to 4 calls on alternate days, whereas those who have recently acquired a new SIM card seem to be receiving a higher volume of calls from international numbers.

How to block and report Frauders on WhatsApp
