Due to the upcoming redevelopment work at New Delhi Railway Station, Indian Railways has started the process of shifting certain trains to other terminals. In the first phase, six trains will be relocated to Anand Vihar Terminal, Old Delhi (Delhi Junction), and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations. These trains will now begin and end their journeys at the new designated stations. The Railway Board has already issued a new timetable for these trains, and the official date of this shift will be announced soon.
The Delhi Division had requested permission to shift six trains from New Delhi to other stations. The Railway Board has approved this request and asked the division to set a date for the change and inform passengers through various channels to avoid any confusion regarding boarding or destination stations.
New Delhi Railway Station currently has 16 platforms, handling around 350 trains and nearly 5 lakh passengers daily. The number goes even higher during the operation of special trains. Before the redevelopment project begins, around 30 trains may be shifted from New Delhi to other stations.

The redevelopment work at New Delhi Station has already started along the Paharganj side, where a Multi-Modal Transport Hub is under construction. From March next year, the building on the Paharganj side will be demolished in phases, followed by the reconstruction of the platforms in four stages.
According to railway officials, the current station building houses several important railway offices. Before demolition, a temporary office space will be built in the Paharganj parking area, and the work for this will begin by the end of June. All the offices will be relocated to the temporary building before the redevelopment starts. The target is to complete the entire redevelopment project in around 45 months.
