Date:

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat Review: Anurag Kashyap’s latest romantic drama is much more than just a classic romantic tale. The film points out the patriarchal notions of love, taboo in the Indian society surrounding romantic longings and the conservative thought process that has left many love stories completed half.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat Review: A Thought Provoking Romantic and Emotional Drama

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat Review:

Anurag Kashyap is known for his gritty dark thrillers set in the backdrop of an India which is still quite underexplored. Sacred Games, Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday and other famous works of the filmmaker has people craft a certain image of him in their minds. However, under the dark and twisted tales that he loves to portray there is a hidden sense of exploring the romantics in today’s life in Anurag Kashyap’s movies. Manmarziyan was an unexpected hit that blew everyone away with its great storytelling. It was the first time when Anurag Kashyap showcased his skills as the director who can even make interesting and engaging romantic dramas.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat is a daring romantic drama that does not want to be grouped with the conventional love story films. The movie written by Kashyap incorporates the new age issues like patriarchy, love Jihad, homophobia, conflicted feelings and much more in its storyline. However, too many themes in the film will leave people with divided opinions when they walk out of the theatre. Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat is a completely different beast than what it’s trailer portrays. The romantic drama is an unconventional film which may make certain viewers uncomfortable at some points.

The star cast of the film has done a wonderful job in executing their roles. Alaya F has evolved as an actor and Karan Mehta shines quietly in the film. Vicky Kaushal is as always a delight to watch and the other cast members are also sincere with their characters.

There are many songs in this film but only one or two of them will stick with you. The background score could have been a better. Yet, the engaging and thought provoking romantic tales don’t let the viewers down.

All in all, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat certainly deserves a visit to the theatres.
