If you are driving your diesel car on the road of Delhi that is more than 10 years old then feel free to drive without any problem. Recently, the Delhi government grants permission to drive their more than 10-year-old car on the roads, but there is a catch.
The government raises a condition for this to happen. If a person agrees to convert his/her more than a decade old car to electric engines, then he/she will get permission to drive that vehicle. Delhi transport minister, Kailash Gahlot, made an announcement on November 18 that the national capital is open to internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric retrofitting.

According to the minister, the retrofitting of diesel vehicles will let the owners drive their cars as electric vehicles. But it has to be more than 10-year-old. In a tweet, Mr. Gahlot wrote, “If a vehicle is in a good state or fit then the owner is allowed to convert their diesel to electric engines.”
Also, the transport department will enlist electric kits for retrofitting conventional internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric ones. Once impaneled, old diesel vehicles will be granted permission to be back on Delhi roads.

In his recent tweet, Mr. Gahlot wrote, “Delhi is now open to ICE to electric retrofitting! Moreover, the Delhi government has granted permission to light commercial vehicles like ‘Chota Haathi’ that are electric. Also, these vehicles will be allowed entry on about 250 roads during no-entry hours. Gahlot says in his tweet, “Good news for Electric Light Commercial Vehicles ( L5N & N1). To drive the adoption of EVs we’ve exempted these vehicles from any prohibition from plying & idle parking on identified roads during ‘No Entry’ Hours. LCVs reg. has already seen a 95% hike since launching of EV Policy!”

Although, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposes a complete ban on more than 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles. According to recent reports, there are more than 38 lakhs overaged vehicles running on Delhi roads. NGT says that out of these 38 lakhs ineligible vehicles, 35 lakhs are petrol and 3 lakhs are diesel cars.
