Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer has opened in theatres today, Friday, October 23, to a modest start. Trade estimates suggest the film will collect around Rs 4 crore net in India on Day 1, with collections expected to pick up in the evening and night shows as word of mouth spreads.
Directed by Akash A Kaushik, Udta Teer released in Hindi across more than 6,600 shows in India. If it reaches the upper end of trade estimates, it could become one of Ayushmann Khurrana’s top three openers since the pandemic.
Udta Teer Box Office Collection Day 1
| Day 1 India net (estimate) | Around Rs 4 crore |
| Expected range | Rs 3.5 crore to Rs 4.5 crore |
| Advance booking (Day 1) | Rs 95 lakh net (41,750 tickets) |
| Shows in India | Over 6,600 |
| Language | Hindi |
The final Day 1 figure will be clear once all the night shows are counted. This report will be updated with the confirmed number.
Udta Teer Advance Booking
Udta Teer sold around 41,750 tickets in advance for its opening day, bringing in about Rs 1.12 crore gross, or Rs 95 lakh net, before the first show. The average ticket price was around Rs 240.
These are modest numbers, but spy comedies and mid-budget films like this usually depend more on walk-in audiences than on advance sales. The film is counting on a jump in the evening shows and on Saturday.
Can Udta Teer Enter Ayushmann Khurrana’s Top 3 Openers?
Ayushmann Khurrana’s opening day numbers since the pandemic have been mixed. His horror comedy Thamma gave him his biggest start, while most of his other recent films opened in the Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore range.
| Film | Day 1 India Net |
|---|---|
| Thamma | Rs 25.11 crore |
| Dream Girl 2 | Rs 10.69 crore |
| Pati Patni Aur Woh Do | Rs 4.38 crore |
| Udta Teer | Around Rs 4 crore (estimate) |
| Doctor G | Rs 3.87 crore |
| Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui | Rs 3.75 crore |
| Anek | Rs 2.11 crore |
| An Action Hero | Rs 1.35 crore |
To enter his top three, Udta Teer needs to beat the Rs 4.38 crore opening of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, which released earlier this year. Based on current trends, the film is likely to finish just below or around that mark.
Udta Teer Faces Tough Competition
Udta Teer has arrived at a busy time at the box office. Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion is in its fourth week and is still drawing family audiences, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has entered its second week after a record-breaking first week of Rs 334.35 crore net. Both films are holding a good share of screens in Hindi-speaking markets.
Udta Teer Review and Word of Mouth
Early reviews have been fair. Critics have praised the film’s quirky premise, its funny moments and the performances, especially those of Rahul Bose and the late Mukul Dev. The third act, however, has been called a little stretched because of too many twists. With limited buzz before release, positive word of mouth will be key to the film’s weekend growth.
Udta Teer Opening Weekend Prediction
If Udta Teer grows well on Saturday and Sunday, it could collect around Rs 15 crore to Rs 18 crore net in its opening weekend. A strong jump on Saturday, of 40% or more, would be a good sign for the film’s long run.
