Nobody Wants This Season 3 Review: Noah and Joanne Settle Down, But Morgan and Sasha Steal the Show

The Netflix romcom trades big breakups for everyday mess, and it is still a very easy show to love.

Nobody Wants This Season 3 Review: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Season 3 is warm, funny, and full of great ensemble moments. The main romance has lost some of its early spark, and a few middle episodes feel light on story, but Morgan and Sasha bring the excitement back.

    Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
    Platform: Netflix
    Genre: Romantic Comedy
Cast: Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn

Romantic comedies can never go back to the first date. That magic only happens once, and Nobody Wants This knows it. Season 3 has now reached Netflix, and instead of chasing the old thrill, it asks a quieter question: what happens after two people decide to stay together?

If you are checking when and how to watch, our guide to the Season 3 release date has the details.

The earlier seasons ran on one big question. Could Noah, a rabbi, and Joanne, an outsider to his faith, make it work? Our Season 2 review looked at how deep and human that story became, especially around Joanne’s feelings about Judaism.

This time, the show relaxes. Noah, played by Adam Brody, and Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, move in together. The season opens with a lovely montage of them cheering “We live together!” over small, everyday moments.

Then comes the real-life stuff. Joanne leaves the fridge door open, Noah loads the dishwasher like a trap, and he wants a sunrise walk while she wants her morning coffee and celebrity gossip in peace.

Marriage is the next step, and Joanne starts attending temple classes meant for people about to marry into the faith. It is funny, though it does not carry the same weight as the problems this couple has already survived.

If the main couple sits in a comfortable groove, the supporting cast fills the gap. Noah and Joanne’s parents still have plenty of silly energy, but the real treat is Sasha and Morgan. Timothy Simons plays Noah’s brother as a lovable, slightly lost man, and Justine Lupe plays Joanne’s sister as a self absorbed fashion lover who avoids anything serious.

They are opposites, yet both feel like outsiders, and that slowly pulls them together. Sasha does not judge Morgan, and he is nothing like the men she usually picks, which makes him feel safe to her. With changes in Sasha’s own marriage to Esther, played by Jackie Tohn, their bond becomes the most exciting thread of the season. It brings back the flutter that Noah and Joanne used to give us.

What the show does best is show how people handle mistakes. Characters say the wrong thing, make quick guesses, get defensive, and sometimes act like fools. But the story cares about what comes next. Can they admit they were wrong? Can they listen? Can they forgive without pretending it didn’t hurt? This applies to romance, and also to siblings, parents, and friends, which makes the show feel relatable.

Bell and Brody still have warm, teasing chemistry that never feels too polished. The wider cast also knows when to push a joke and when to let an awkward silence do the work.

Not everything works. The stakes are lower this time, and the old fizz has faded a little. A couple of episodes in the middle do not move the story forward much, and the temple class storyline is funny but lacks edge. If you want the big emotional swings of the earlier seasons, you may feel a small gap.

Nobody Wants This Season 3 is a cozy, affectionate comedy that still knows how to make you smile. It may be in safe mode, but it is safe mode done well, and the sibling storyline adds fresh excitement.

If you are building your watchlist, our review of The Mothers of Penguins Season 2 looks at another Netflix family drama and asks if the magic is still there.
