Gemini in Chrome Can Now Browse the Web and Fill Forms for You; Here’s How It Works

Google's Gemini in Chrome auto browse feature can now navigate websites, fill out forms, compare prices, and complete multi-step tasks on its own, and it's rolling out to desktop and Android users in India.

Gemini in Chrome Can Now Browse the Web and Fill Forms for You; Here's How It Works

Google has quietly rolled out one of its biggest AI updates yet for Indian users, and it’s happening right inside the browser most of us already use every day. The new Gemini in Chrome auto-browse feature is now live on both desktop and Android phones in India.

Alongside this, Google is also opening up the broader Gemini in Chrome Assistant to all Android users in the country, a feature that had already made its way to Windows, Mac, and Chromebook Plus devices earlier this year.

Think of it as an AI assistant that lives right inside Chrome, and given how dominant Chrome already is, this update has the potential to reach a huge number of people.

According to data from Statcounter, Chrome currently holds around 89.07% of the browser market in India, leaving competitors like Opera, Safari, and Microsoft Edge trailing far behind.

What’s Actually Available, and to Whom

It’s worth clearing up exactly what’s free and what isn’t, because the rollout isn’t quite one size fits all. On Android, Gemini in Chrome is available to everyone, letting users summarize web pages, connect with Google apps like Calendar and Gmail, and even generate images using Google’s Nano Banana model.

The auto browse feature, though, is a different story. That one’s reserved for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, whether they’re on desktop or Android.

    What Makes Auto Browse Different

Here’s where things get genuinely interesting. Auto browse isn’t just about summarising a page or answering a question; it can actually navigate websites on its own, click through pages, and even fill out online forms without you doing it manually.

It doesn’t stop there either. The feature can be set up to compare products across sites, track price drops before you commit to buying something, book event tickets, reserve a table at a restaurant, or even schedule appointments for you. In short, Gemini in Chrome’s auto browse is built to handle complex, multi-step tasks online, the kind that usually take up a good chunk of your afternoon.

Google Says Safety Comes Built In

Naturally, letting an AI loosely wander the internet and interact with websites on your behalf raises some real questions around safety. Google seems aware of this too.

“These capabilities are built to be secure-by-design, and our models are trained to detect known threats, such as prompt injection. For added control, auto browse is designed to keep you in control by asking for confirmation before completing some sensitive tasks,” said Charmaine Dsilva, Senior Director, Product Management for Chrome.

That reassurance matters more than it might initially sound. Giving an AI agent the ability to actually act on the web, rather than just chat with you, opens the door to new kinds of risks.

Prompt injection attacks hidden inside webpages, for instance, could try to manipulate what the AI does, and a small mistake becomes a lot more serious if the AI is the one placing an order or completing a transaction without you stepping in first.

How Many Tasks Can You Actually Run?

Usage limits depend entirely on which subscription you’re on. Google AI Pro users can send up to 20 requests per day for these multi-step tasks, while AI Ultra subscribers get a much bigger allowance, up to 200 requests a day.

As AI tools get this much access to our browsing and daily tasks, it’s probably a good time to brush up on general online privacy too. If you’ve ever assumed Incognito mode keeps you fully hidden, you might want to read what Incognito mode actually hides, and what it doesn’t. And while you’re at it, here’s a fun one worth checking out: does Airplane Mode really charge your phone faster?
