Ghamasaan OTT Release Date: When and Where to Watch Arshad Warsi and Pratik Gandhi’s Upcoming Thriller Drama

Pratik Gandhi and Arshad Warsi face off in Tigmanshu Dhulia's gritty new thriller

Ghamasaan finally has a home. The Tigmanshu Dhulia-directed thriller premieres on ZEE5 on September 11, and it brings together Pratik Gandhi and Arshad Warsi in a cop versus dacoit story that promises to be a lot more layered than the usual chase film.

The setup on paper sounds familiar. Gandhi plays Aditya, an IPS officer heading a special task force sent to hunt down Warsi’s Maharaj, a dacoit operating in Bundelkhand. But Dhulia is not interested in a straightforward hero and villain chase.

Maharaj is not just a fugitive hiding out in the ravines. The trailer makes it clear he runs on a network that stretches into the police force and political circles, which means catching him will not automatically solve anything.

That is really the heart of the film. Aditya starts out thinking he is chasing one man. What he eventually realises is that he is up against an entire system built to protect that man, and he has to operate from inside the very structure that is working against him.

An Interesting Choice by the Director

Here’s something that makes Ghamasaan stand out even before release. Dhulia revealed in an interview with Scroll that Gandhi and Warsi never actually shot together, and their characters do not share a single scene.

Instead of building tension through repeated face-offs, the conflict is meant to build through strategy, fallout, and the people who get caught in between the two men. It is an unusual choice, but it fits with Dhulia’s approach of making this feel less like a chase film and more like a slow-burn power struggle.

Rajpal Yadav and Ishita Dutta round out the cast in pivotal roles. Character names have not been revealed yet, but Dhulia did drop one interesting detail about Yadav. His role steps away from the comic timing he is usually known for, and the character plays an important part in the film’s epilogue.

That alone makes him worth watching out for. Dutta’s role is still under wraps, so it is probably best to wait for the film itself rather than guess at her arc from a short trailer appearance.

    A Western Built in Bundelkhand

Dhulia has always been open about his love for Westerns, and Ghamasaan reflects that clearly. He told Scroll the team used anamorphic and wide lenses to give the film a proper Western look and feel.

Choosing Bundelkhand as the setting also helps, since its dry, water-stressed terrain looks nothing like the river-fed Chambal ravines that usually show up in dacoit dramas. It gives the film a visual identity of its own instead of falling back on familiar imagery.

    A Long Road to Release

Ghamasaan has actually been ready for a while. The project reached Dhulia just before the COVID period, wrapped up in 2023, and premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2024. From there, it travelled to the Cinevesture International Film Festival and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival before finally locking in its ZEE5 date. That festival run has already given the film an audience, and now the wider streaming premiere means a lot more people get to see what the buzz has been about.

The film comes from ZEE5, Jio Studios, and Golden Ratio Films, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Piiyush Singh, Abhayanand Singh, Saurabh Gupta, Ashwini Chaudhary, and Miten Shah. It is also part of a bigger slate from the same collaborators, alongside Sumo Didi and Ikroop, the latter starring Mithila Palkar and Gauahar Khan.

So when September 11 rolls around, expect an intense, morally grey drama rather than a standard cop and criminal story. With Gandhi playing it controlled and Warsi trading his usual comic ease for something far more ruthless, Ghamasaan looks set to deliver exactly the kind of tension Dhulia has built his career around.
