Mirzapur: The Movie Trailer Review - Munna Bhaiya Returns as the Battle for the Gaddi Gets Bigger

The wait for Mirzapur: The Movie has become even more exciting after the release of its trailer. The nearly three-minute trailer brings back the familiar world of violence, power struggles and dark humour that made the Prime Video series so popular.

At first glance, the movie looks like a bigger and more cinematic version of the Mirzapur world. The familiar characters are back, but the trailer also introduces new faces and a fresh threat that could once again change the fight for the famous gaddi.

The film is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.

    Munna Bhaiya Is Back

The biggest talking point from the trailer is undoubtedly Munna Bhaiya.

Divyenndu’s character became one of the most popular figures in the original series, despite his violent and unpredictable nature. His return is especially surprising because Munna was killed at the end of Season 2.

The trailer brings back the old Munna Bhaiya energy, giving fans a glimpse of the character they remember. His presence immediately adds another layer of mystery to the film and raises questions about how the character fits into the new story.

Whether the movie explains his return through a flashback, an alternate timeline or another storytelling device remains to be seen.

    Mirzapur The Movie Trailer Review

Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu Pandit Return

Pankaj Tripathi is back as Kaleen Bhaiya, the powerful figure at the centre of the Mirzapur universe.

Ali Fazal also returns as Guddu Pandit, who has gone from an ambitious young man to one of the key players in the battle for power. Their rivalry has been one of the main driving forces of the franchise, and the trailer suggests that the struggle for control is far from over.

The gaddi remains at the heart of the story. As different characters fight for power, alliances appear fragile and nobody seems completely safe.

Ravi Kishan Adds a New Threat

One of the most interesting additions to the movie is Ravi Kishan.

The actor appears to be playing a dangerous new gangster who enters the Mirzapur power game with his own ambitions. His character, seen as Yadav Ji, appears to bring a different kind of threat to the established players.

His arrival could be important because the story is no longer simply about the old rivalry between Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu.

With a new gangster entering the picture, the balance of power could shift once again.

The Trailer Feels Like Vintage Mirzapur

If you have watched the original series, several elements in the trailer will feel instantly familiar.

There are guns, violence, colourful characters, sharp one-liners and the kind of dark humour that has become closely associated with the franchise. The trailer also carries the rough and chaotic atmosphere that fans expect from Mirzapur.

At the same time, the film appears to have a much larger scale.

The move from streaming to theatres gives the makers an opportunity to present the world of Mirzapur with bigger action sequences, larger locations and more cinematic visuals. The trailer seems to take advantage of that without completely changing the identity of the franchise.

    More Familiar Faces Return

The film does not rely only on its three major characters.

Rasika Dugal returns as Beena Tripathi, while Golu Gupta, played by Shweta Tripathi Sharma, is also part of the story. Abhishek Banerjee is among the other returning or featured faces associated with the movie.

The cast also includes Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Sonal S. Chauhan and several others.

Jitendra Kumar is another notable addition to the cast. He reportedly takes on the role of Guddu’s younger brother, adding another new relationship to the story.

What Does the Trailer Reveal About the Story?

The trailer does not give away every major detail, which works in its favour.

What it does make clear is that the fight for the gaddi is still alive. The established characters are dealing with new challenges, while newcomers are looking for an opportunity to take control.

The movie is set in the same universe as the series, but it appears to take the story in a new direction. The trailer also suggests that the film will revisit the atmosphere and character dynamics of the earlier seasons.

This should make the movie accessible to existing fans while still giving audiences something new to watch.

A Bigger Screen for the Mirzapur Universe

The biggest difference between the series and the movie is likely to be scale.

The Mirzapur series built its reputation through character-driven drama, unpredictable violence and long-running rivalries. A theatrical film has less time to tell its story, so the movie will need to pack that same energy into a shorter runtime.

The trailer suggests that the makers are aiming for a more intense cinematic experience without losing the franchise’s core identity.

The combination of familiar characters, new threats and larger action sequences could make the film an interesting transition from streaming to theatres.

Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4, 2026.

The film will be released in Hindi and Telugu, giving the franchise a wider theatrical reach.

For fans who have followed the series since its first season in 2018, the movie marks another chapter in the story of Mirzapur and its never-ending battle for power.

The Mirzapur: The Movie trailer has the one thing fans were probably looking for most: the return of the franchise’s familiar madness.

Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Bhaiya are back, while Ravi Kishan’s character appears ready to disturb the existing power structure. The trailer also promises violence, dark humour, betrayals and a much bigger cinematic scale.

The biggest question is how the movie will explain Munna Bhaiya’s return and whether the big-screen story can match the impact of the original series.

For now, the trailer looks like a nostalgic but fresh return to the world of Mirzapur. Fans will have to wait until September 4 to see whether the movie can deliver on that promise.
