Hridayapoorvam Movie Review: A Heartwarming Return to Feel-Good Cinema

The film's biggest strength lies in its simplicity. In a time when movies often try to be overly complex, "Hridayapoorvam" finds beauty in everyday emotions and relationships.

    Hridayapoorvam Movie Review

After a decade-long gap, the beloved duo of Mohanlal and director Sathyan Anthikad has finally reunited, and the wait feels absolutely worth it. Their latest collaboration, “Hridayapoorvam,” hits theaters today as a perfect Onam treat that brings back the charm of simple, meaningful storytelling.

    What’s the Story About?

The movie follows Sandeep, a man who receives a new lease on life through a heart transplant. When he decides to attend his donor’s daughter Haritha’s engagement ceremony, what starts as a brief visit turns into an extended stay with the family. As days turn into weeks, Sandeep finds himself drawn closer to both the family and Haritha herself, creating a beautiful tale of love, gratitude, and second chances.

This premise might sound familiar, but Sathyan Anthikad’s treatment makes it feel fresh and genuine. The story explores how life can take unexpected turns when we least expect it, and how sometimes the most beautiful relationships bloom from the most unlikely circumstances.

    Performances That Touch Your Heart

Mohanlal delivers another effortless performance as Sandeep. The success of Neru proves that people love to see Mohanlal playing the common man, and he continues that trend here. His portrayal feels natural and relatable, never overdoing the emotional moments. You believe in his journey from the very first scene.

Malavika Mohanan brings grace and depth to Haritha’s character. She manages to balance vulnerability with strength, making her relationship with Sandeep feel authentic rather than forced. Their chemistry develops gradually, which makes the romance more believable.

Best known for playing Amal Davis, the hilarious best friend in Premalu, editor-turned-actor Sangeeth Prathap returns this week as the loyal comic sidekick and he doesn’t disappoint. His comic timing provides perfect relief without disrupting the film’s emotional flow.

The supporting cast, including seasoned actors like Siddique, Lalu Alex, and Janardhanan, adds richness to the family dynamics. Every character feels necessary to the story, not just there for the sake of it.

    Technical Brilliance

The cinematography by Anu Moothedath captures the serene beauty of Kerala’s landscapes and the intimacy of domestic life with visual elegance. The visuals complement the storytelling perfectly, never trying to overshadow the narrative.

The screenplay by Sonu TP flows smoothly, giving each character enough space to breathe and develop. The dialogues feel natural, like conversations you’d actually hear in real families.

    What Works and What Doesn’t

The film’s biggest strength lies in its simplicity. In a time when movies often try to be overly complex, “Hridayapoorvam” finds beauty in everyday emotions and relationships. The pacing allows the story to unfold naturally without rushing toward dramatic moments.

However, some viewers might find the narrative predictable. If you’re looking for surprising plot twists or high-octane drama, this might not be your cup of tea. But that’s exactly what makes this movie special – it doesn’t try to be something it’s not.

    Final Thoughts

“Hridayapoorvam” is exactly the kind of movie Malayalam cinema does best – stories rooted in human emotions with characters you care about. It’s a perfect family watch that reminds us why Sathyan Anthikad and Mohanlal made such a beloved combination in the first place.

The cast also includes Malavika Mohanan, Sangeeth Prathap, Sangita, Siddique, Nishan, Baburaj, Lalu Alex, and Janardhanan.

    Rating: 3.5/5

This is comfort cinema at its finest – a movie that doesn’t promise to change your life but guarantees to touch your heart.
