Out of Four Tickets, Three Are Confirmed and One Is Not – How Can the Passenger Travel? Here Are the Rules

Category-

Every day, millions of people travel across India by train. To accommodate these passengers, the Indian Railways operates thousands of trains. Train journeys are considered convenient and comfortable, making them a preferred mode of transport for most travelers. Many passengers opt for reserved tickets to ensure a hassle-free journey.

Indian Railways has specific rules for ticket bookings. A common question among passengers is: What happens if four people book tickets together, but only three tickets are confirmed while one remains on the waiting list? Can the passenger with the waiting ticket still travel? Let’s understand the rules regarding this situation.

Passengers with a Waiting Ticket Can Also Travel

If four passengers book tickets under the same PNR (Passenger Name Record) and three tickets get confirmed while one remains in the waiting list, the fourth passenger can still travel under the “Partially Confirmed Ticket Rule.”

This means that while the waiting ticket is not canceled, the passenger will not get a reserved seat. However, if a seat becomes available during the journey, the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) may allocate it to the waiting passenger.

Same Rule Applies for One Confirmed and Three Waiting Tickets

If four passengers book a ticket together and only one ticket is confirmed while the remaining three are on the waiting list, the same rule applies. The confirmed passenger will get a seat, while the other three can travel without a seat reservation. If any seats become vacant during the journey, the TTE may allocate them to these passengers.

These rules ensure that passengers with partially confirmed tickets can still travel, even though seat availability depends on cancellations or vacant seats during the journey.
