Badass Ravi Kumar Movie Review: A Nostalgic, Over-the-Top Action Musical That Embraces Its Absurdity

    Badass Ravi Kumar

Himesh Reshammiya is back as Ravi Kumar, but this time with a ‘badass’ upgrade. Badass Ravi Kumar, directed by Keith Gomes and produced under Himesh Reshammiya Melodies, is a spin-off of The Xposé (2014) and takes a completely over-the-top, no-holds-barred approach to storytelling. With a mix of retro action, musical drama, and loud, exaggerated dialogues, this film is pure mass entertainment, but only if you leave logic at the door.

    Story & Execution

Forget depth, forget complexity—Badass Ravi Kumar is all about style, swag, and one-liners delivered with full conviction. The plot is wafer-thin: Ravi Kumar takes on the tough-as-nails cop Carlos Pedro Panther (played by Prabhu Deva), and what follows is a series of flamboyant action sequences, dramatic confrontations, and musical showdowns. The film doesn’t take itself seriously, and that’s its biggest strength. It knows exactly what it is—a flashy, exaggerated spectacle designed for fans of old-school Bollywood masala.

    Performances

Himesh Reshammiya plays Ravi Kumar with an unapologetic confidence. His dialogue delivery remains uniquely his own—blunt, rhythmic, and dramatic. Prabhu Deva as Carlos Pedro Panther is an odd but interesting casting choice, bringing his signature style and swagger to the role. Kirti Kulhari, Simona J, and the rest of the supporting cast (including legends like Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra) add to the film’s chaotic yet enjoyable energy. Sunny Leone makes a special appearance, adding to the film’s nostalgic charm.

    What Works

✅ Dialogues – The film is packed with one-liners that range from hilarious to unintentionally funny. The punchlines, dramatic pauses, and exaggerated delivery make it a treat for fans of 80s and 90s Bollywood cinema.
✅ Music – Since it’s a Himesh Reshammiya film, expect catchy beats, foot-tapping retro-style numbers, and a soundtrack that stays with you. The film thrives on its musical sequences.
✅ Cheesy Fun – If you enjoy movies that embrace their own absurdity, this one delivers in spades. The film is a tribute to old-school Bollywood action, with villains who growl, heroes who talk in riddles, and action sequences that defy all logic.

    What Doesn’t Work

❌ Zero Logic – If you’re looking for a well-structured story or character depth, you won’t find it here. The plot is secondary to the film’s flamboyant style.
❌ Over-the-Top Acting – While this is intentional, some moments feel stretched, making the film seem like an extended meme.
❌ Repetitive Action – The fight sequences are fun initially, but after a point, they become predictable and repetitive.

    Final Verdict

Badass Ravi Kumar is not a film you critique with logic—it’s one you experience for the sheer fun of it. It’s loud, over-the-top, and filled with cheesy dialogues, stylish action, and Himesh Reshammiya’s signature musical touch. If you enjoy nostalgia-driven, exaggerated Bollywood action flicks, you’ll have a blast. If you’re expecting realism, this is definitely not your film.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5) – A guilty pleasure for lovers of Bollywood masala!
