Delhi NCR Gears Up for Cold Wave with Temperatures Predicted to Plunge to 3°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a significant drop in temperatures in Delhi this week, with the mercury expected to plummet to 3°C. A cold wave is set to grip northern India, affecting regions like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana until December 14.

On Monday, Delhi’s minimum temperature hovered around 8°C, but the winter chill is anticipated to intensify due to early snowfall in the northern states and scattered rainfall across Delhi and its neighboring regions.

The IMD also forecasts light to moderate rainfall in parts of Delhi NCR on Monday, triggered by a Western Disturbance. Dense fog is expected to blanket the city on December 9 and 10, potentially reducing visibility and disrupting traffic.

The IMD further noted that the Western Disturbance is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall and snowfall to the western Himalayan region from December 9 to 11. Isolated showers are also expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, along with a chance of light rain or drizzle in Delhi. Misty conditions during the night are also predicted.

Residents of Delhi NCR and the northern belt are advised to prepare for the sharp dip in temperatures and take precautions against the intensified winter conditions.
