Delhi Air Quality Becomes Poor after Dussehra

The national capital registered an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 209 on Sunday, placing it in the ‘poor’ category, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This AQI level indicates heightened pollution levels, which may cause discomfort for sensitive groups such as those with respiratory issues.

In terms of weather, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius on the same day. These mild temperatures are typical for the season and do not pose any significant concerns.

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast an improvement in air quality later in the day, with the AQI expected to fall within the ‘moderate’ range, between 124 and 135. This level of air quality is more manageable, posing fewer risks to public health compared to the current ‘poor’ status.

For context, the AQI scale ranges from zero to 500, with levels between zero and 50 considered ‘good,’ 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory,’ and 101 to 200 ‘moderate.’ An AQI of 201 to 300 is categorized as ‘poor,’ 301 to 400 ‘very poor,’ and anything above 400 as ‘severe,’ indicating hazardous conditions.
