    Zora

    Rating: 4/5 Stars

After 20 long years, master filmmaker Rajiv Rai returns to direction with Zora, and what a comeback it is! The man who gave us classics like Gupt and Tridev proves he still knows how to craft edge-of-your-seat thrillers. Released on August 8, 2025, this murder mystery brings back the golden era of Bollywood suspense cinema.

A Story That Hooks You From Start

Zora tells the gripping tale of Ranjit Singh, a young sub-inspector whose life changed forever when he witnessed his father’s brutal murder at age 13. Now working in the Crime Branch, he finds himself solving an unconventional puzzle involving the mysterious and alluring Zora. The plot unfolds like a perfect jigsaw puzzle, keeping you guessing until the very end.

This isn’t your typical Bollywood thriller filled with unnecessary songs and romance. Rai keeps the focus sharp on the mystery, making every scene count toward solving the puzzle.

    Fresh Faces, Solid Performances

Taking a bold step away from star-studded casts, Zora features over 40 new actors from North India. Ravinder Kuhar delivers a compelling performance as the determined cop, while Dilraj Uday and Karan Vir provide strong support. These newcomers don’t feel like they’re trying too hard to impress – they simply become their characters.

The casting choice works brilliantly because it allows the story to shine without any star baggage or preconceived notions.

    Technical Excellence

Viju Shah’s music and background score deserve special mention. The haunting melodies perfectly complement the dark, mysterious atmosphere. Lalit Sahoo’s cinematography creates the right mood for every scene, while Rajiv Rai’s editing keeps the pace tight throughout the 125-minute runtime.

    What Makes It Special

Zora brings back the authentic feel of 90s thrillers but with modern sensibilities. There’s no unnecessary comedy track or forced romance subplot. The film respects your intelligence and doesn’t spoon-feed every detail.

Rajiv Rai proves that good storytelling doesn’t need huge budgets or star power – just a solid script and sincere execution.

    Minor Concerns

The film might feel slow for viewers used to today’s fast-paced action entertainers. Some scenes could have been trimmed slightly, though the mystery elements justify the deliberate pacing.

    Final Verdict

Zora is exactly what Bollywood needed – a well-crafted thriller that relies on story rather than star power. Rajiv Rai’s return is truly welcome, and this film shows he hasn’t lost his touch. If you love mysteries and appreciate good filmmaking, Zora will not disappoint you.
