During the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan, the world witnessed the strength of India’s defence systems. India launched 15 BrahMos missiles at Pakistan, destroying 11 airbases. This powerful display by the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos showed that India is no longer entirely dependent on foreign defence equipment—it now has the capability to force its enemies to retreat using weapons developed within the country.
BrahMos is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world, known for its incredible speed and pinpoint accuracy. It is claimed that BrahMos can strike within one metre of its intended target, making it extremely precise. After this successful demonstration, many countries expressed interest in purchasing the missile. Interestingly, several Muslim nations have also shown interest. So, can India sell the BrahMos missile to other countries? What permissions are required? Let’s find out.
The First Deal Was with the Philippines
The Philippines was the first country to buy the BrahMos missile from India. In 2022, the Philippines signed a deal worth $374 million with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited. India delivered the second batch of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines in April 2025. Following that, India also entered into discussions with Vietnam regarding a BrahMos missile deal.

Other Countries Showing Interest
After seeing the power of the BrahMos missile, many countries across the globe have expressed interest in acquiring it. Several Muslim countries are among them. Talks are underway between India and Indonesia, and a deal could be finalised soon. Vietnam is also planning to acquire BrahMos missiles for its army and navy. Apart from these nations, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman have also shown interest in the missile.
India Needs Permission from This Country
BrahMos is a joint venture between India and Russia. Under this agreement, BrahMos Aerospace was established in India to manufacture the missile. According to experts, the technology behind the BrahMos missile is a 50-50 partnership between India and Russia. Therefore, if India wants to sell the missile to any other country, it must first obtain Russia’s approval.
