Bollywood has given us plenty of intense India-Pakistan spy dramas over the years, but Udta Teer is here to flip that formula on its head. Earlier this year, Dhurandhar 2 showed us an Indian spy quietly working inside Pakistan. Now, Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment are doing the opposite, with a lot more laughs along the way.
The trailer introduces Ayushmann Khurrana as a sharp, highly skilled Pakistani spy sent on a mission to India. He is shown as one of the best in the business, fiercely loyal to his country and clearly very good at his job. But then things take a wild turn.
An incident on Indian soil wipes out his memory completely, and in the confusion that follows, someone convinces him of a whole new identity. He is now made to believe he is an Indian man whose parents were killed by Pakistani terrorists. The twist? He is still just as patriotic as before. He has simply forgotten which side he is supposed to be patriotic for.
It is a genuinely fun premise, and the trailer leans into the chaos it creates instead of playing it safe. You can tell this film is not trying to be another tense border thriller. It wants you to laugh while also keeping you hooked, which is a tricky balance to pull off. Based on what we have seen so far, it looks like Udta Teer might actually manage it.
The supporting cast adds a lot of weight too, with Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Mukul Dev, and several others rounding out the ensemble. The trailer also touches on some very current, very relatable topics like Ozempic and nepotism, slipping them into the humor without feeling forced.
Then there is Sara Ali Khan, whose character feels like the real wildcard here. From what the trailer shows, she seems to be the one steering Ayushmann’s character toward believing he belongs to the Counter Terrorism Squad in India.
How much she knows, how much she is hiding, and what her real motive is, all of that remains a mystery for now. And honestly, that mystery is one of the more exciting parts of this trailer.
It is worth noting that Bollywood has explored the India-Pakistan angle many times before, often through a heavier, more dramatic lens. Udta Teer seems determined to go the other way, choosing chaos and comedy over chest-thumping patriotism.
If that sounds like your kind of film, you might also want to check out the trailer for Reporting Live, where Parineeti Chopra takes on a completely different kind of risk, this time in the name of truth and journalism rather than spy games.
Udta Teer is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, marking yet another collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. With Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan leading the charge, the film promises a breezy mix of comedy, action and a fair bit of heart.
Audiences can catch all the confusion, chaos, and laughs when Udta Teer hits theatres on October 9, 2026.
