One of the two Hindi films releasing in theatres on October 21, the day after Diwali, is Thamma, the next installment in Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe. The film follows Stree 2, Munjya, and Bhediya, with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. In advance bookings, the film has already earned over ₹4 crore, and it is expected to open in double digits on its first day, though this may fall slightly short of the producers’ expectations.
How much can Thamma earn on Day 1?
For a Diwali release, Thamma’s advance booking numbers are relatively modest. According to the latest figures from Sacnilk, as of Monday evening, the film has sold over 1,45,039 tickets across India, bringing its gross advance sales to ₹4.06 crore. Ticket sales are expected to pick up after the release, and the final figure could cross ₹6 crore.

Trade experts believe that Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s film will have a decent opening during the festive weekend. Current estimates suggest a first-day collection of ₹18–20 crore. Anything beyond that would be considered a bonus. However, given it’s a Diwali release from Maddock’s popular franchise, the lower-than-expected advance bookings have surprised many analysts.
The film is releasing on 4,000 screens across India. With no other major Hindi release clashing on Diwali, Thamma has the potential for a strong weekend. However, it is likely to open lower than last year’s Diwali blockbusters — Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹35 crore) and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns (₹32 crore).
A trade analyst remarked that claims of a ₹30–32 crore opening are unrealistic since the film’s promotions have been relatively low-key.
What is Thamma about?
Thamma is the fifth film in the Maddock horror-comedy universe, which includes Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. The film releases on October 21, Diwali day, and is based on stories about vampires, bringing a fresh supernatural twist to the franchise.
