Team India Will Not Play in Asia Cup, Big Decision by BCCI!

Team India Will Not Play in Asia Cup, Big Decision by BCCI!

The BCCI has made a big decision regarding Team India’s participation in the Asia Cup. Reports suggest that due to the growing tension between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has decided to stay away from this multinational tournament for the time being. According to the decision, Team India will not participate in the upcoming editions of the Asia Cup. The BCCI has also informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about this decision.

    BCCI Withdraws from Asia Cup

According to The Indian Express, the BCCI is also likely to boycott the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, scheduled to be held next month in Sri Lanka. In addition, Team India will not take part in the Men’s Asia Cup slated for September. The ACC is currently headed by Pakistan’s minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Why Did BCCI Boycott the Asia Cup?

Sources claim that this decision has been taken with the intention of isolating Pakistan cricket. A BCCI insider stated that the Indian team will not play in a tournament overseen by a Pakistani minister, as this issue is linked to national sentiment. The BCCI has verbally informed the ACC about its decision to pull out of the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup and has also indicated that India’s future participation in such tournaments is on hold. It was also mentioned that the BCCI is in continuous touch with the Indian government regarding this matter.

Men’s Asia Cup Under Threat After BCCI’s Move

The BCCI’s decision has put the Men’s Asia Cup, scheduled for September, under serious doubt. According to sources, without Team India, the Asia Cup loses much of its relevance. Many international cricket sponsors are based in India, and without India, there will be no high-stakes India vs Pakistan match — a major revenue generator and a huge draw for broadcasters. Apart from India, teams from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan participate in the Men’s Asia Cup.
