Netflix’s next K-drama has a genuinely clever hook: a man whose artificial heart is running out of power and a woman who can quite literally recharge him. Take Charge of My Heart premieres on Netflix on October 9, 2026, blending fantasy, romance, and comedy into a 12-episode series that’s already building plenty of buzz off its teaser trailer alone.
When and Where to Watch
Take Charge of My Heart streams exclusively on Netflix starting October 9, 2026. The series had previously been expected sometime in late October or November as part of its broader Q4 rollout, but Netflix has since confirmed the earlier October 9 date, alongside releasing an official teaser trailer.
What’s the Story?
Directed by Park Soo-won and adapted from the Naver web novel Charge Me Up by author Haebeon, the series follows Baek Ho-rang, a third-generation chaebol heir and executive director at one of the country’s top resorts, whose biggest weakness is his failing artificial heart. His battery is running dangerously low, and that’s where Na Bo-bae comes in, a woman who was struck by lightning as a child and has had mysterious electrical powers ever since.
Because of her condition, Bo-bae has spent years keeping people at arm’s length, literally wearing gloves and staying isolated to avoid accidentally electrocuting anyone. Everything changes when she and Ho-rang share an unintentional kiss, and she realizes her electricity doesn’t seem to affect him at all. For the first time, she thinks she’s found her fated “human rubber glove.”
Things get complicated fast, though. Ho-rang’s heart surgery gets disrupted by a storm-induced blackout, leaving his new high-power battery only able to recharge when Bo-bae is physically near him. With roughly three months before he can get another surgery, and with him needing to stay functional long enough to take over TS Group, Ho-rang proposes a deal Bo-bae can’t refuse: she’ll charge him through touch, and in exchange, he’ll help her complete her “romance bucket list,” something she desperately needs to finish her own writing contract, despite never having been able to properly date anyone because of her electric touch.
The Cast
Chae Soo-bin plays Na Bo-bae, bringing experience from previous Netflix K-dramas like When the Phone Rings and The Fabulous, along with other popular dramas including Rookie Cops and I’m Not a Robot. Kim Young-kwang plays Baek Ho-rang, known for Netflix’s Somebody and Hello Me, and he’s also set to appear in the upcoming Netflix K-drama Trigger.
The supporting cast includes Cha Woo-min as Ji Eun-ho, Jung Jae-kwang as Choi Do-yun, and Shin Do-hyun in a guest role as Han Seol-hui.
Behind the Scenes
The series is written by Song You-chae and produced by NEW POINT and WHYNOT MEDIA, with Netflix presenting. Park Soo-won’s direction, following his earlier work on Birthcare Center, suggests a steady hand for balancing the show’s blend of fantasy premise with genuine romantic comedy beats.
Why This One’s Worth Watching
What makes Take Charge of My Heart stand out is how literally it takes its central metaphor. Instead of a vague, poetic idea about someone “charging” your heart, the show builds an entire fantasy mechanic around it, giving the romance genuine stakes beyond just emotional tension. Combined with a premise that forces both leads into physical closeness neither of them can fully control, there’s plenty of room for both comedy and real chemistry to develop.
Should You Watch It?
With a genuinely inventive premise, two leads who’ve both built solid K-drama résumés, and Netflix clearly backing this one with a confirmed early October date, Take Charge of My Heart looks like a fun, high-concept rom-com worth adding to your watchlist.
While you’re planning your October lineup, there’s more worth checking out too. 100 Days of Deception’s release date on Netflix brings a completely different, historical spy drama flavor, and if you’re after something a little more fun and local, Pati Patni Aur Panga Season 2 on JioHotstar is also worth a look this October.
Take Charge of My Heart premieres on Netflix on October 9, 2026.
