“Safed,” Sandeep Singh’s directorial debut, ambitiously explores the intricacies of marginalized lives through the characters Kaali and Chaandi, portrayed by Meera Chopra. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Kaali, portrayed by Meera Chopra, unknowingly offers herself in a vulnerable moment, unaware of Chaandi’s eunuch identity. This revelation sets the stage for a potentially powerful exploration of the characters’ emotional turmoil.

The film, however, falls short in executing this pivotal moment and the subsequent developments. Despite the good intentions of delving into unconventional themes, forced dialogues and a lack of emotional expression hinder the impact of the storyline. The potential for a poignant and thought-provoking narrative is compromised by these shortcomings.

The central theme of unexpected love and the exploration of identities within marginalized communities could have been a compelling narrative device. Unfortunately, the film struggles to effectively convey the depth of emotions and struggles faced by the characters. As a result, the audience is left with a sense of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.

In terms of a rating, “Safed” earns a modest 1.5 stars. While the film attempts to tackle important themes, the execution ultimately falls short, leaving the audience wanting more depth and resonance in the portrayal of the characters’ experiences.
